[Ivan’s POV]
I became more and more positive that the cause of the force and light was Arissa as we drew closer to the location of the disturbance. Despite telling myself again and again that I wouldn’t accept her as my mate, I could easily feel her presence, and I was shocked to find just how comforting it truly was after all the worry I had gone through.
Picking up my pace, I pushed my way through the force that was attempting to keep me away. It was strong and I could see Hans struggling to stay behind me due to it, but I didn’t bother stopping. I could feel a strong sense of hatred and fear in it and knew that she needed me even if she didn’t know it herself.
"Alpha, is this a good idea?" Hans puffed, as we stopped in front of the mating house to examine the white light that was flowing through a hole in the roof. "We don’t know what this is or who is responsible."
"It is Arissa." I responded, beginning to move again.
"How do you know?"
I didn’t bother explaining how I knew; I just knew. I could feel her from here and I could feel her warring emotions.
Inside, the house was empty due to the fact that it wasn’t time for the blood moon yet. Of course, that would give Arissa’s kidnappers the perfect place to hide without being seen. However, how did they manage to sneak in without Isaac or his men noticing?
Pushing my suspicions aside, I made my way up the large staircase that sat in the middle of the entryway towards the second floor, where Arissa’s scent was radiating from.
Feeling disgust rush through me, I took in the long corridor in front of me that was lined with many doors made of steel. This place truly was sick, and I couldn’t believe that Arissa had to be kept here for so long before I found her.
It didn’t take long for me to locate the room where she was being kept. The door blocking her from me was locked and bending against the force of Arissa’s power pushing against it.
"Stay back, Hans." I ordered, lifting my foot.
Giving a snarl, I kicked out, letting my foot connect with the metal. It gave a creak on impact, but remained in place. Feeling my panic rising due to the fear I could feel so strongly coming from Arissa, I prepared to deliver a stronger blow. I didn’t know what she was experiencing, but I would be sure to take care of it.
"Do you want my help?" Hans asked, beginning to move forward.
As I opened my mouth to respond, another soul-piercing shriek escaped from the room, sending the door flying against the wall of the corridor.
Not wasting any time, I rushed forward into the room to find Arissa curled up in a ball on the floor, clutching at her head.
"There you are." I sighed, bending down and scooping her into my arms. "You can relax. I’m here now."
Pulling her against me, I greedily soaked up her scent and warmth against me. It was only in this moment that I truly realized how terrified I had been over her, and I knew that from this moment forward, I wanted to protect her for the rest of my life.
"No," she whimpered, beginning to struggle against me. "NO!"
Confused, I tightened my hold on her, stopping her from struggling to break free. It seemed that she was lost in her own head and suffering.
