He seemed rather upset.

“I could only describe what I observed. You know this is not my profession. I can’t possibly write a detailed report.” Mike appeared innocent as he opened his arms. “This kind of job is more suitable for Rhea.”

“So you’re complaining that I asked you to do this instead of Rhea?” Looking up, the man asked unhappily. His voice, rough and unpleasant, was unsettling.

Mike shook his head. “No, that’s not what I meant. I’m just saying that this is not my profession, and I know little about it. So I might make mistakes or not perform a detailed and objective observation. I… worry that I’d delay the progress of the experiment,” he replied in a seemingly objective manner.

“Hmm…” The impatient man thought about it seriously. “Rhea is doing another more important experiment and cannot afford to make any mistakes. Also, we are short on staffing. Otherwise, I wouldn’t ask you to do it.”

Mike remained quiet.

“I know you’re against it, and you still have some softness and kindness. What’s wrong? You couldn’t bear to see him suffer?” As if to make his presence felt, he climbed up the stool and then the desk. Being a little taller than Mike now, he stared down at him.

“A… little bit, I guess.” Mike said it blandly, knowing the man would not believe him if he denied it.

The man let out a strange laugh, as if mocking him. “A little? You guys are hypocrites! You’re willing to help me and obey my orders only for the sake of your son! Human beings are selfish by nature, so why pretend to be kind? Besides, the world will undergo an upheaval when we pull off the experiment!”

“So, can I see my son?” Mike did not refute the man’s words and eagerly wanted to see how his son was doing.

When his son first went missing, he tried his best to get his men to search for him worldwide. However, he had failed miserably, as if his son had simply vanished. Then this horrible man came to see him.

Before he could finish, the man interrupted. “Are you doubting me now?”

“No!” Suppressing his emotions, Mike lowered his head. “I only want to see my son and ensure he’s still okay.”

“It’s easy to see your son. Do a good job for me and obey my orders!” The man said, “You did well on relocating the laboratory, but I don’t wish to stay in this dark place any longer. Find me a better location so that I can move out!”

He hated the smell of the disinfectant the most, and as their current location was underground, he felt like a rat in the sewer. He wanted to be on the topmost floor so he could see the sun every day and gaze down upon everyone else.

“It’s… difficult!” Mike said, knowing it’s not an easy task.
