“I said nothing yet,” Mike said, stunned.
“Save it then! I’m pretty sure it’s not a good plan. Plus, why must we cooperate with you?” Alexander was tense and questioned hostilely, “You’ve long lost your credibility here. Why would we cooperate with someone we can’t trust?”
“It’s different this time around…” Mike did not expect to get rejected by Alexander before he even told them his plan. For a moment, he did not know how to continue the conversation.
“I’ll think of a way to save your son, but that’s it. Mike, our relationship as business partners ends here!” Alexander got up and extended his arm toward Lily to help her stand. He seemed to have no intention of staying on the topic any longer.
However, Lily did not get up. She just looked at Alexander’s extended arm before again averting her gaze to Mike. “What is it? I’m interested to know.”
Alexander was speechless for a moment.
“You’re wasting your time listening to his nonsense!” Alexander bent over, wanting to pull Lily to her feet. “Don’t trust anything he says! He has ulterior motives!”
Alexander was slightly agitated at this point.
By now, Mike understood why Alexander was acting this way. “I know you’re afraid Lily would get hurt, but that’s our only option right now.”
“What are they trying to achieve by experimenting with all those poisons? Why must it blend with the fragrances? Why must it diffuse into the user’s body without them realizing it? How are they so sure that Lily could succeed? What if she doesn’t? Does that mean that they can’t achieve their goals?”
Alexander’s series of pressing questions rendered Mike speechless for a moment. It was not that Mike had not thought of those things before, but… he also had no answers to them.
He was merely an insignificant pawn of the organization who had to carry out his duties or anything they ordered of him. As for what they were planning to do, how much could he possibly know?
“I can’t answer those questions, but I know time is running out.” Mike looked up and breathed a heavy sigh, revealing a hint of helplessness in his gaze as he repeated, “Time is running out!”
