Upon hearing Edward’s words, Alexander looked over and saw the empty safe lying on its side, with the door wide open. It was evident someone had taken its contents.
“Do you know what he stored in that safe?”
Edward shook his head. “It seemed to be some potion or drug that Rhea or the lab staff developed. It could also be a virus, but I’m not sure. I’m not well-versed in the organization’s affairs.”
Although Edward hid in the building for some time, he remained concealed. After all, revealing himself was unsafe, so he had limited access to information.
Alexander approached the safe and squatted before it. Then he touched the safe, carefully examining it.
Edward noticed Alexader's expression and approached. “What’s wrong?”
Alexander did not answer. Instead, he turned to look inside the safe and wore gloves to feel around it. He lightly tapped around the safe as he touched it.
Thud, thud. Click, clack.
“There’s a hidden compartment?!” Edward also noticed something was amiss with the sounds.
Alexander glanced at Edward and remained silent. The former straightened the safe and searched inside until he found a latch. He heard a faint click after exerting a slight force, then opened the compartment.
The compartment was shallow and could not contain much. After feeling around inside, Alexander pulled out a document envelope. It was an important-looking parchment paper document envelope sealed with wax.
"That’s..." Edward was surprised Alexander found something hidden inside. Most importantly, someone had already searched the place, yet the document remained undiscovered.
Even so, she was not ready for significant movements yet.
This particular childbirth had exerted excessive strain on Lily’s body. However, now was not the time to focus on recovering peacefully. What awaited her was likely even more intense than a thunderstorm.
Someone pushed the door to the ward open, and Lily instinctively glanced at the wall clock. Considering the time, it was not mealtime or her scheduled injections or medication. As she turned to look at the door, she saw the man entering.
“You look pretty good these past two days.” The man wore a well-tailored suit as he leaned on his cane.
"Has your boss agreed to see me?" Lily did not want to waste time on small talk and cut to the chase. "I can either eat or die now. Whether you want a living and healthy body or a dead and decrepit one is up to you!"
