It was early morning when Alexander opened his eyes, jerking awake from a nightmare. He had not slept properly for a long time but never told anyone about it. Of course, he could not.

Alexander was distraught yet could not show it or vent his frustrations. He had to remain calm and alert lest he fail to rescue his wife. Although he had managed to keep a cool head, what Mike said yesterday disturbed him.

Alexander dreamed about Lily being locked inside an aquarium after someone injected something into her. She screamed in such agony as she bloated and rotted that Alexander shouted when he awoke agitatedly.

He was in a panic and covered in sweat. He palmed his head and told himself it was just a dream and that his wife was still alive, at least for now.

At that moment, Alexander’s phone on the nightstand rang. He picked it up, saw it was Edward, and accepted the call. “Yeah?”

“Sir, we’ve escorted the doctor’s family out of the country,” Edward said.

Alexander grunted a yes and rubbed his temples, feeling a bit dizzy. His mind was not fully alert due to the lack of sleep and the nightmare. He casually responded without much thought.

“There’s something else…” Edward hesitated.

“What is it?”

After a pause, Edward said, “The doctor hasn’t left yet and wants to meet you.”

“Bring him over then.” Alexander sighed and added, “Be careful.”

“Yes, sir!” Edward hung up and looked over his shoulder at the man sitting in the backseat. The former shook his head. “I’ll bring you there. Sit tight.”

Edward arrived at Alexander’s place after about an hour and parked his car. When the back door opened, the passenger got out and glanced around. The doctor entered through the front door and saw Alexander waiting inside.

Although it was not his first time seeing Alexander, he could not help but weep.

Alexander was stunned.
