It's the weekend, and Stephanie and Emily just finished eating and are lounging on the sofa, watching movie trailers on their phones.

Stephanie praised Emily's acting just as Jeffrey’s call came in.

She quickly picked up the phone and put it on speaker.

“Emily, your dad's on the line,” she told Emily.

Jeffrey heard this, and although he was fuming inside, he kept it together.

He couldn't let his daughter get scared.

“Jeffrey, what’s up?” Stephanie asked.

Jeffrey, suppressing his emotions, took a deep breath and asked, “Did you take Emily to the movie set?”

“Yeah, Emily’s living with me now.”

“What about Ashley?”

“She started working and doesn’t have time for Emily.”

“Working?” Jeffrey was taken aback and asked, “What’s she doing now?”

“She’s working with Gracie in the studio, coaching newbies on acting.”

“She’s not acting herself?”

“She says she’s taking a break.”

“Did she know about Emily acting?”

“She didn’t at first, but she does now. She didn’t want Emily in this business, but I saw how happy Emily was acting, so I let her do it.”

Jeffrey fell silent momentarily before asking again, “Emily is happy with it?”
