Henry, fuming, wriggled out of his godfather’s arms and set off on his tiny legs toward his dad. But before his feet could hit the ground, Conner plucked him right back up, hugging him tight.

“Godfather, I want Daddy!” Henry whined with all the drama a toddler could muster.

Conner grinned, undeterred. “Why go looking for your dad? I’m your dad, too!” He kissed Henry’s squishy cheek and squeezed him, adding, “Your godmother misses you, you know.”

Then, with a flourish, he pulled a red envelope from his pocket and stuffed it into Henry’s arms. “We missed giving you a New Year’s red envelope, so here’s one to make up for it.”

Mars raised an eyebrow. “When did you even get that ready? We didn’t see a thing.”

Conner puffed up with pride. “That’s because none of you have a woman at home. Annie knew I’d see my godson today and told me to bring it.”

As Conner reveled in his moment, Asher couldn’t resist poking fun. “So, did you find your sister-in-law yet? Set the date? Married Annie and brought her home? None of that’s happened, but here you are acting all high and mighty.”

Conner shot back, “Jealous much? Just admit it.”

“Oh, sure,” Asher said. “I’m jealous you get bossed around, jealous your fiancée ran away, and jealous your sister-in-law’s still single. Totally.”

“Wanna fight about it?” Conner challenged, dead serious.

Asher just grinned. “Where at? You pick.”

Business was done for the day, but the brothers immediately slipped into their usual back-and-forth. Andre and Teddy just shook their heads, laughing.

Mars, never one to miss a beat, turned to Andre. “What are you laughing for? Hernandez Group sent a deputy VP to talk to you—aren’t you supposed to be some big shot? How come the CEO’s not giving you the time of day? You really think dealing with the VP is enough?”

Teddy chimed in, “The CEO is actually married to the VP. But for big decisions, it’s Patrick—the VP—calling the shots.”

Mars squinted, confused. “Wait, who makes their wife CEO and the husband the VP? That’s just weird—never mind, forget I asked.”

Teddy shrugged. “Because you’re an idiot.”
