Cooper: “I can’t carry him back.”

“Why not?”

4:00 PM.

Andre’s phone rang. “Hey, Cooper.”

“Hey, bro-in-law, can you swing by the go-kart club? Your kid won’t leave. My sister told me to bring him home, but right now he’s glued to the steering wheel and won’t let go.”

Andre put down his pen and took a deep breath. “Why is he at the go-kart club again?!”

Cooper blinked. “Uh, I brought him here to try it out.” Turned out, once he tried it, he wouldn’t stop.

By 4:30, Andre showed up at the club, looking sharp in his suit. Inside, his son—classic grumpy Henry—was arguing with a staff member. “No! I wanna play more!”

Andre came over, and Henry immediately reached out, all puppy eyes, “Daddy~”

Clinging to his dad’s pant leg, Henry got scooped up into Andre’s arms. “How long has he been at this?”

Henry shot his uncle a look. Cooper shrugged, “Two hours.”

“Henry, you can either go home now, or do three more laps with Daddy, then we’ll head out. Your pick.”

Of course, Henry went for more laps. Andre buckled him in, hands in his pockets, and watched as his son zipped around three more times. But when it was time to leave, Henry still wouldn’t budge.

Andre sighed, “Alright, I guess your uncle and I will just leave without you. You stay here and play.”

As soon as Henry realized his dad might actually go, he started fake-crying, calling for Daddy to carry him.

After changing out of his little racing suit, Andre finally scooped up his sulky son and headed home. Even as they left, Henry clung to the window, not ready to say goodbye to the track.

Cooper glanced at his nephew and felt a little pang of sympathy.

Since he’d driven his own car, Cooper called out, “Andre, I’m heading out first!”
