Chapter 298 novel Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance
Chad gave a slight nod to his subordinates outside the panel. They immediately stepped into the room next door, looking at the man who was still stubborn.
"Officer Rubin, your career ends here." They said.
Officer Rubin looked at the cop in shock, "Where's Chad? Wasn't he the one interrogating me?"
The cop replied, "The captain is already preparing to transfer Marian. You've been with her for five years and didn't marry her. Women aren't dumb, you know. She realized it's not worth it to keep protecting you."
"That's impossible!" Officer Rubin couldn't believe it, "You cops always act like you know everything during interrogations to make me nervous. I'm telling you, I don't believe she would betray me."
The cop said, "You're hard to fool, but she isn't a civil servant. She doesn't know how these things work. Plus, she's already confessed everything."
Officer Rubin was still in disbelief.
In the adjacent room, Marian was sobbing, spilling out all the deeds she had done over the years. Chad was interrogating her, and a stenographer was taking notes. After an hour-long interrogation, it was finally over. Marian could finally close her eyes and rest for a bit.
Whatever Chad had promised her, he would fulfill, "Marian, wait for the law to judge you. I hope you can start anew after you get out."
Chad exited the room with the notes, and the officers outside gave him a hearty round of applause. Donnie admired his mentor, who was only three years older than him. Chad had earned his position because he was genuinely brilliant.
"Chad, you're really something." Donnie said.
He started out intimidating Marian, making her fearful, and then ignoring her for a while to keep her off balance. When he began his interrogation, he attacked her vanity. He even brought in a mirror, showing her haggard reflection.
When she was emotionally vulnerable, he had his subordinates tell her that Officer Rubin wanted to see him. This broke Marian's defenses and left her in a state of chaos. Then he began sympathizing with her, building rapport. Finally, she broke down in tears and told the truth.
With Marian as a witness, Officer Rubin had no choice but to admit his guilt. But Chad wanted to dig deeper into his other information, including the role of the Marshal family and who else was involved in the act of laundering money through Obsidian Cafe.
Back at the office, Andre received a call from Chad about Officer Rubin's confession. "Chad, is there any other information on him?" Andre asked.
"That will take time. Without Marian's confession, he wouldn't have admitted guilt so quickly. We can't afford to wait any longer and have to lock him up for now. We can get to him easily enough since he's under our control. Andre, I've got the guy. I have a few questions for you." Chad said.
Andre, looking out his office window, said, "I know what you're going to ask. It's not convenient to meet outside. Come to my house when you have time."
Chad agreed.
Chad successfully put Officer Rubin behind bars, completing a major task. He had heard that Hansen was hospitalized but never had the chance to visit. Moreover, he had only seen his sister once in all this time. So, after transferring the criminal, he went home, changed into clean clothes, and brought a gift to the Cedillo family.
Hansen had been discharged and was recuperating at home. The doctor had reminded him to keep his emotions in check and not get easily angered. The doctor also advised the Cedillo children, "Keep Hansen happy. He's not getting any younger, and you'll regret it if something happens."
Upon hearing the doctor's advice, everyone nodded respectfully, and Hansen felt he had found a reliable doctor. He returned home, where his children were very obedient.
Mia had been particularly lethargic lately. After finishing her meal, she felt sleepy and went upstairs to rest. Molly thought she was sick and went to check on her, "Mia, let me check your temperature."
Molly touched her forehead, and her temperature was normal, "You don't have a fever, and you're not sick. What's wrong?"
"Ask Andre." Mia said.
Molly, who loved reading novels since she was a kid, immediately understood!
Leo laughed at the side, "Ha-ha, Molly, got rebutted by Chad, huh? You should admit you're lazy."
"I can't be bothered with you." Molly said.
Leo was scolded by Molly.
Mia chimed in, "Why don't you ever learn? Got scolded by Molly, huh?"
Leo interrupted them, "I'm out!" He was the youngest, with the lowest status.
In the living room, Hansen also got Chad's drift. Sure, Chad was here to see him, but he also wanted to whisk Mia away. Molly used to flit between the two houses, but recently she had been laying low. She didn't seem to mind where she stayed. Chad personally coming to pick her up, and she couldn't let him return alone. So she said, "I'll head back to the Byrne family, I've started to miss my folks."
Later, Andre called Chad into his study and Bruce tagged along.
Hansen was left alone in the living room, curiously looking at the stairs, "What are those three whispering about?"
Suddenly he spotted Mia on the sofa, looking bored. He wanted to use her to eavesdrop on their conversation, saying, "Mia, I'll pay you if you can sneak in and listen to what they're saying."
Mia replied, "Dad, I'll pay you to find someone else. I'm not doing that."
She was not clueless. She knew her dad was still sore about the lemon juice incident and wanted her to screw up and get chewed out by Andre. She wasn't going to play that game.
Hansen tried to spur her on, "Are you scared of Andre? Mia, let me tell you, as a wife, you can't let your husband walk all over you. You need to show some backbone. If you're always scared of your husband, your status in your in-laws' house will go downhill." Hansen had a sincere expression as he talked to Mia.
