Andre nodded. He followed her into the office. “Mrs. Byrne is not feeling well?”
Coleen replied curtly, “Just a minor ailment.”
She went on, “Andre, I called you here because I thought you might have some news about Chad. I haven’t been able to reach him lately and I was hoping you might have heard something. I didn’t dare to ask anyone else, but I know you have your connections, your influence...” Coleen thought of the person Andre had been looking for at the office earlier. She knew that the power of the Cedillo family extended far beyond just one empire.
“Andre, what’s going on with Chad? If he’s in trouble, I hope you can help him out, for the sake of our past friendship with Molly. Chad has a strong sense of justice and doesn’t fear stepping on powerful toes. He’s been working on a case recently that involves a lot of parties and I’m worried it might be too much for him to handle. Andre, you’ve achieved your current position and success through careful planning and strategy. If Chad had even half of your abilities, I wouldn’t be so worried.”
Every mother loves her child. Coleen was a rational woman, and she was also a clear-sighted one. She was always worried about her son, but she couldn’t ask anyone about him for fear of affecting his situation. Today, seeing Andre, she couldn’t help but ask for his help.
Andre looked at Coleen. Her motherly love was apparent. She was nothing like Cecilia. “Coleen, don’t worry. Chad is fine. He’s just helping with a case and no one is giving him trouble. You need to have faith in your son. Chad is not as helpless as you seem to think.”
If he was just an ordinary man, he wouldn’t be able to rise to the position of squadron leader at such a young age.
Looking at Coleen’s haggard face, Andre added, “Many of the older leaders are watching Chad closely, observing him. If he solves this case, his future... You know what I mean.”
Coleen relaxed a little. “Thank you, Andre.”
“There’s no need to be so polite. Chad and his friend have been busy lately. If you need any help at home, just give me a call.”
Coleen felt a warmth spread in her heart. She remembered she had kneeled before him, pleading with him. How cold and unfeeling he had been! Now, he was filled with kindness and warmth.
“About Ashford Inc., you won’t go easy on them, will you?” Coleen asked.
“That’s something I was going to tell you about,” Andre replied. “Chade Inc. is continuing to grow steadily. Do not interfere in their affairs. It won’t do you any good to get a bad reputation.”
Andre didn’t disclose his plans, and no one could guess what they might be.
Coleen nodded. “Thank you, Andre.”
Andre stood up. “Coleen, your health is your capital. If you lose it, everything else will be futile.”
Coleen was silent.
Andre walked past her and out of the office, seeking his wife and sister.
“Honey, where are you?” Andre’s arm was wrapped by his petite wife.
On his other side, his sister also grabbed his arm. “Andre, how did you deal with them?”
Andre led his family away. “Let’s start thinking about what to order at Majestic Dining Enclave.”
On the way, Mia suddenly remembered. “Honey, don’t you have a business meeting?”
Andre said, “Oh, I declined.”
“Do you have anything in the afternoon?” she asked.
Andre replied, “I have a meeting in the afternoon.”
“What about tomorrow?”
Andre said, “I have to go out for an inspection tomorrow.”
“And the day after tomorrow, you’ll have time, right?”
“The day after tomorrow I’ll accompany you for your prenatal checkup.”
Molly didn’t understand her brother’s predicament. She said bluntly, “Mia, why do I feel like Andre is avoiding you?”
Andre didn’t listen.
“Honey, I, I was wrong. Don’t, um...”
Cecilia was sentenced. Molly was surprised. She quickly called Mia. “Mia,Chad didn’t teach me that verbal abuse could get you sentenced.”
Mia, who was taking calcium tablets, chewed loudly. “Didn’t you want her to go to jail? So, she did.”
“Oh my god. Is my Andre really that powerful?”
Mia stole another calcium tablet. “Now do you believe what I said? Andre kicked us out because he didn’t want us to know how powerful he is.”
Not long after, when she tried to steal another tablet, Naomi took them away.
“Naomi.”
Naomi said, “This is calcium. You’ve eaten enough. Get up and move around. I’ll accompany you outside for a walk.”
Mia felt as if her entire family was more worried about her pregnancy than she was.
Chad, after being away for nearly two weeks, had finally returned home. It was days before Molly’s new semester.
Upon turning on his phone, the screen was filled with missed calls and unread messages, and all of them were from his younger sister. As Chad read the messages while strolling down the street, passersby noticed the smile on his face. “Officer Chad, is that a message from your wife?” they asked.
Chad chuckled and replied, “Nope, it’s from my little princess at home.”
He got into his car, just as he finished reading Molly’s messages. He thought about giving her a call. Then, on second thought, considering how much she had missed him, he decided to surprise her by picking her up from company after his shift ended.
And so, Chad dialed his mother’s number.
