“When I received a call from Mr. Calder, you were right beside me, but I had no idea what was going on.

“I found Anya in her pajamas, visibly hurt. I decided to take her to the hotel first, but you called while I was checking her in. The lobby was filled with hotel staff.

“The second time you called, I was just getting back to the hotel from the hospital with Anya. I couldn’t exactly stand there and gossip about Anya’s situation over the phone, not in front of her and the hotel employees. Could I?”

Mia seemed to be choking back tears, realizing that it wasn’t the best time for explanations. After all, Anya was a grown woman and deserved some dignity. “Why didn’t you take me with you? Otherwise, people might misunderstand your relationship with her.”

Andre said, “It was past ten when this happened. You needed rest. And who knew what was going on at the university. What if something happened and you got hurt?”

Mia stopped crying. “Does Anya know you are married?”

Andre chuckled, “Of course she knows. She even attended our wedding.”

“What?” Mia couldn’t recall.

Andre added, “She even wanted me to send her regards to you and our child.”

All thoughts of crying left Mia. Anya even knew about her pregnancy. “Honey, if you couldn’t talk to me on the phone, you should’ve messaged me. You know how jealous I get. Plus, I’m extra sensitive because of my pregnancy. My heart was beating so fast in our room just now.”

Andre embraced his startled wife. “I should have been more considerate.”

“Honey, I do trust you.” Mia made the sign of a little pinky promise. “But I am a little scared.”

Andre held her hand. “It’s okay. Time will prove my sincerity.”

Mia felt a little guilty for getting jealous and making a scene.

Once they were back in their bedroom and Andre was lying next to her, Mia finally fell asleep peacefully.

The next day, they went to the university.

Rumors had already spread like wildfire among Molly and Leo.

“Andre was seen at a girls’ dormitory last night, and he took a female student with him!”

Molly and Leo exchanged glances. Molly quickly interrogated the gossiping classmate, “Are you sure Andre was at the university last night?”

“Yes, many people saw him waiting for a girl outside the dormitory. He then took her away with her luggage. Apparently, she was a freshman.”

Molly lost her appetite for lunch, and Leo put down his fork too. “Last night, around half-past ten, I was on the phone with Mia. She told me Andre had stepped out after receiving a call.”

Leo chimed in, “Around one in the morning, Mia woke me up and dragged me to the hotel to confront my uncle.”

They fell silent. It seemed like trouble was brewing at home!

Molly decided to dig deeper, “Do you guys know who the girl was that Andre took?”

One of the students at the table answered, “No idea, just know she’s a freshman.”

Leo asked, “Do you know which dormitory she was staying in?”

The girl blushed at Leo’s attention. “Um, I heard she was staying in North 7.”

Leo and Molly immediately left the cafeteria.

“Molly, you go inside and check. I’ll wait here.” Leo couldn’t enter the girls’ dormitory.

Molly nodded and went to inquire from the dormitory supervisor. “Ma’am, I heard a girl moved out of here last night. Do you know who she was and which room she was in?”

“Her reputation isn’t good. She’s rumored to be a home-wrecker, apparently has several boyfriends.”

Leo drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, perplexed. “This doesn’t add up. Someone of my uncle’s caliber wouldn’t fall for a bitch.”

Molly rested her arm on the car window. “I agree. Andre isn’t that naive. Should we tell Mia?”

Leo mulled it over, then nodded. “Let’s tell Mia. She should confront Andre directly. I don’t believe that my uncle would fall for a freshman. He wouldn’t even consider her because of the age gap. There must be some misunderstanding.”

Molly agreed and took out her phone to call Mia, who was expecting her baby soon.

Mia was already in the late stages of her pregnancy. She had made arrangements with the hospital and was making frequent visits. She had also unknowingly prepared all the baby’s blankets and clothes.

At the moment, she was in her bedroom folding the baby’s blankets when Molly’s call came in.

She answered, put the phone on speaker, and continued folding the baby’s clothes.

“Molly, what’s up?”

“Mia, I need to tell you something. Stay calm, okay? You have to trust Andre’s love for you and his sense of responsibility towards the family. Then, ask him what’s going on.”

Mia set aside the neatly folded clothes and picked up a pair of cotton panties to fold. “Uh-huh, keep talking,” she said nonchalantly.

“I heard Andre picked up a college freshman last night at Havenbrook University, and it was a girl.”

“Oh, I know that.”

“Wait, you do?” Molly cried out in surprise. “You know about his mistress?”

Mia finished folding a small pile of clothes and got up to put them in her wardrobe. With her phone in hand, she set Molly straight. “Mistress? No, that girl is the daughter of Andre’s friend. She’s a typical high society debutante.”
