Anya initiated conversation again, “Hey, Leo, are you the most popular guy at Havenbrook University?”
“I’m not.”
Anya pulled out her phone, found a picture of Leo and showed it to him. “But according to this poll, you’re at the top.”
“Ah, so your eyesight is fine. You can read polls.” Leo retorted, completely unaware that Anya was trying to engage him in conversation.
Having spent a lot of time with Mia and Molly, Leo had lost his sense of appropriateness in jokes, which led him to think that all girls should be as shameless as his aunt.
Anya, who he met again many years later, thought that Leo disliked her. So, she sat in silence.
The car was quiet. Leo’s mind was on his new ride, feeling the acceleration of the car. With one hand on the wheel and the other out the window, he was feeling the warm night breeze. His face was full of youthful arrogance and a devil-may-care attitude. In a typical guy’s eyes, cars are everything. He completely ignores the girl sitting next to him.
They quickly arrived at the hotel. He parked the car at the entrance. “I’ll wait for you here. You go get your stuff.”
“Okay.” Anya got out of the car.
Leo casually asked again, “Do you have a lot of luggage?”
Anya was silent for a moment, and then said shyly, “Kind of.”
Leo regretted asking that question. If he hadn’t asked, he could have pretended not to know, but since he had asked, he had to help.
Anya stood at the hotel entrance. “It’s okay. I can handle it.”
Leo glanced at her slender figure, guessing that she wasn’t strong. He had just gotten a new sports car and was in a good mood, so he decided to help her out. He got out of the car, and casually tossed his car keys to the security guard at the entrance. His actions were casual, but they had a certain coolness when performed by Leo. He seemed like a refined yet rebellious gentleman, with a hint of rogue charm.
Anya watched Leo’s actions, wishing she could see them again. She regretted not being in a movie so she could replay that scene over and over again!
“What are you staring at? Let’s go.” Leo called to the girl who was still standing at the entrance.
“Oh, okay.” Anya quickly followed Leo into the elevator.
Once in the elevator, Leo finally had the chance to look at the girl standing next to him. He looked Anya up and down, surprised to see how much she had changed, and for the better.
She was slender, not short. Her head just reached his chest. She was quite pretty, on par with Mia and Molly. But who would have thought that when she was four, she was a chubby little girl. He still remembered what she looked like then.
Leo bluntly asked, “Anya, did you have plastic surgery?”
Anya’s cheeks flushed as she looked up at the tall Leo. “No, I didn’t.”
“Then did you take weight loss pills?”
Anya shook her head blankly. “No.”
Leo asked, “Then how did you lose weight?”
Anya turned away from him and said deliberately, “I’m not telling you.”
Leo looked at her as if she was his little sister and chuckled.
They arrived at her floor. Standing outside Anya’s room, Leo decided to wait outside. “I can’t help you in there. You go in and pack your stuff. I’ll wait here.”
Anya was surprised. “Why won’t you come in?”
“Are you crazy? I’m a guy. I can’t just walk into your room. Are you nuts?”
Leo looked at the silly girl and chuckled. “I was teasing you. We have a chef at home. No need for you to cook. Anya, what’s your major?”
“Business administration.”
Leo nodded, “That’s good.”
After a while, Anya asked again, “Leo, can you tell me about everyone’s personalities and taboos at home?”
Gradually, Leo found that Anya’s character was soft and tender. She was different from the two tough girls at home who loved to hit and joke around. He couldn’t say anything too careless to her. It would scare her. “Everyone at home is easy-going. There are no taboos. But, Mia sometimes likes to hit people. Don’t be scared if she does. Molly sometimes likes to joke around. Don’t be scared of her either. They won’t target you.” They would usually target him!
“But Aunt Mia and Aunt Molly are very gentle and approachable today.”
Leo replied, “As time goes by, you’ll change your mind.”
When they got home, Anya’s room was already set up. She shyly thanked each member of the Cedillo family. Naomi took her upstairs to help her unpack, and Mia followed them for fun.
Since they got home, Leo had been lounging on the couch. His legs were propped up on the armrest, and he looked totally relaxed. At home, he was quite at ease.
Andre slid into a chair. “Anya still has some stuff at her dorm. You should go with her to pick it up tomorrow.”
“Andre, isn’t it enough for me to run this errand? You’re even making me go again.” Leo rolled over on the couch, sitting up to look at Andre.
Andre retorted, “You want me to drag Mia along to make a trip to the campus?”
Leo agreed, “Alright, fine.”
After responding, he continued to lounge leisurely on the couch.
