"Time's running out; any later and we'll raise suspicion."
Mia didn't give her family a chance to refuse as she thrust her little bundle of joy into Naomi's arms. "Naomi, hold my son for a bit, will you?"
Mia and Leo exchanged a knowing look. "We're counting on you," she said before hurrying out the door with Una following close behind.
Wesley glanced at his watch again—fifteen minutes had passed. Unease crept in, his only source of news being the maid he had persuaded to his side earlier. He wasn't ready to give up, though, the anticipation gnawing at him.
Soon, the door opened, and a woman in a soft yellow sweater and a flowing skirt stepped out.
Wesley's eyes locked onto her, a flicker of recognition sparking. It was her!
Andre's wife, in the flesh. He had always wondered what kind of woman could captivate such a man entirely.
Lost in thought, he barely noticed the maid following her out.
Wesley squinted, sensing something amiss.
Then, Mia approached the car.
"Ms. Mia, this gentleman here is the employee from Mr. Andre's company who's been falsely accused, as I mentioned before."
Wesley looked up, scrutinizing Mia through the car window. Her bright eyes were as clear as a lake. Her cheeks were plump, and her skin was fair, making her look like an overgrown student.
She was... even more beautiful than in the photos.
Wesley's eyes roamed over Mia, finding her far more appealing than the typical, thin figures popular these days, both cute and easy on the eyes.
Suddenly, Wesley felt a pang of... reluctance.
Una tapped on the car door, alerting Wesley, "Buddy, this lady here is Mr. Andre's wife."
Wesley realized his position and hurried out of the car. "Ms. Mia, I..."
"You're one of my husband's employees?" Mia had felt a chill from his gaze. Once Wesley was out, she tried to place his face from her memory.
Wesley nodded.
Mia's voice was soothing, making Wesley wonder what it was like for Andre to have such a woman by his side all the time.
Seeing Mia puff her cheeks, an involuntary gesture, caught Wesley's attention once more.
"My husband isn't home, but you can talk to me. Let's go inside; it's not appropriate to discuss this out here," Mia said, leading the way.
Wesley hesitated, looking to Una with caution, "Big sister?"
Una played along, "Kid, I got caught going back to the hall. Had to spill about your troubles. You wanted to expose your superior's crimes, right? Talking to Ms. Mia will clear your name just the same."
Wesley wasn't looking for this, whispering to Una, "The boss's kid."
Una waved him off, conspiratorially whispering, "Didn't make it to the hall, didn't see. But if you go, you'll probably be taken there, and you'll find out."
Mia, a few steps ahead, turned, "If you don't trust me, you might as well leave and wait for my husband!"
Wesley thought of his purpose in Havenbrook: to infiltrate the Cedillo family and find out if Andre's son was indeed there.
Such an opportunity laid before him; it would be a shame to back out now!
His initial hopes shattered, Wesley's heart sank.
Mia beamed at her son, then turned to Wesley, "What's your relation to Tom?"
Wesley squinted, the truth dawning on him. "I don't know him."
"Seize him," Hansen ordered, prioritizing Mia and the child's safety.
The men moved swiftly towards Wesley, who backed up to the gate, finding it locked.
He faced Mia, his earlier admiration replaced with disdain, "The key."
Attempting to escape over the Cedillo family's high walls topped with electric fencing was out of the question. Wesley wasn't about to turn into a roast.
The men around were itching to step in, but they were at a loss about whom to follow. Finally, all eyes turned to Leo for guidance.
Wesley tried to land a few punches, but Mia dodged them with an effortless grace.
She even taunted him, "You're nowhere near as good as Tom."
Little Danny, nestled in his grandfather's arms, watched his mom's sleek moves with excitement bubbling inside him. He clenched his tiny fists so tightly, his whole body seemed ready to leap out towards his mom.
"Mia, come back here," Naomi called out, concern etching her voice as she rushed forward.
Hansen felt his heart leap to his throat. Despite being in his own home, he knew if anything happened to Mia, his younger son would disown them all in a heartbeat, believe it or not.
Amidst the chaos, Leo remained the eye of the storm, calmly glancing at his watch. "Five minutes are up."
