Mia Irwin pushed through the pain to lift her little bundle of joy, Henry, and showered his chubby cheeks and double chin with kisses. "My little man, mommy loves you so much."
"Mama, mama~" Henry cooed, his voice carrying the sweet scent of milk.
Mia held her soft little Henry close, unwilling to let go. Her son was worth every ounce of love and protection she could muster.
Later, as she showered with the door slightly open, Henry kept calling out for her from his spot on the bed. It seemed "daddy" was yesterday's news; his new favorite word was "mama." Each call was met with Mia's loving response, and Henry's face lit up with excitement as he watched the bathroom door.
After her shower, wrapped in a towel and before she could change into her pajamas, Andre Cedillo appeared behind her with a new plaster. "Hold still, I'll put on a fresh one."
"Honey, it smells so strong. The whole bed will reek of medicine," she objected playfully.
Andre gave a gentle reprimand, "If medicine smelled nice, it wouldn't be medicine. Even Henry tries to eat it."
Henry lay on the bed, drooling and giggling without a care in the world.
Andre meticulously applied the plaster to Mia's arm, smoothing it out with more focus than he ever gave to his work contracts. "Where's your wrist brace?" he asked.
Mia pointed to the bathroom, and Andre fetched it, securing it around her wrist. "Be careful with your wrist. Earlier, when I offered to get your bath sponge, you said no. Did it hurt?"
Mia nodded with a pout, "Yeah, it did."
Andre looked at her with concern, "Mia, I'm here to help, not for you to tiptoe around."
After securing her wrist, Andre lifted a towel to dry her hair, then led her to the bathroom, adjusting the hairdryer before gently drying it.
Soon enough, Henry started feeling left out and whimpered.
"Bring him here," Mia suggested.
Andre went out, scooped up their little rascal, and set him on the bathroom counter. The three of them faced the mirror together. Henry, playing with his toes, marveled at their reflection. "Wow, mama, mama~"
With her free hand, Mia playfully poked her son's cheek. She grabbed her phone to capture this sweet family moment—a snapshot of her handsome, almost-too-perfect husband patiently drying her hair, and their adorable son snuggled in her arms.
"Don't post that with you in a towel," Andre warned.
Mia pouted, "Hey, movie stars post without clothes."
Andre put down the hairdryer, fetched her modest pajamas from the wardrobe, and said, "Change into this before taking pictures."
Henry, meanwhile, had taken an interest in his dad's razor during the outfit change. As he tried to put it in his mouth, Andre quickly intervened.
Holding onto the razor, Henry looked up, ready to "argue" with his dad, "Ah, ah~"
Mia quickly snapped a photo of the father-son moment.
Andre flicked his son's cheek playfully. "When you grow a beard, I'll get you your own razor."
...
The next day, Mia's parents arrived with gifts, and she ran to them, childlike in her excitement. "Mom, Dad!"
Henry stood by the sofa, curiously watching the newcomers.
Aaron picked up his chubby grandson, playfully asking, "Shall grandpa give you a little tickle?"
Henry just blinked, seemingly at a loss for words.
That afternoon, Andre heard his in-laws had visited and rushed home early. By then, they had already left.
Hansen Cedillo felt guilty for not taking better care of his daughter-in-law, but Mia's parents reassured him, "Mia should be taking care of you."
Mia often mentioned how you and Naomi helped with Henry. I even told her not to always burden you with her child. But then, looking after Henry for a few days herself, she ended up with a sore arm. It's really because her father always saw Mia as his little girl and couldn't bear to see her doing any heavy lifting. Now, after holding her little chunk for a few days, she's worn herself out."
The Irvins didn't have a bad word for the Cedillos. Instead, they thanked Hansen and Naomi Mastin for their help and subtly pointed out the real issue, playfully blaming Aaron. Yet, their criticism of Aaron came back to his doting love for his daughter, indirectly showcasing that Mia had been treated like a princess at home.
In the end, all eyes landed on the little munchkin, Henry.
"Hansen, there's still work to be done at the office, so we'll head out. Don't bother sending Andre back here again; we're all family, no need for formalities. We're leaving Mia in your capable hands. It seems she's even put on some weight during her vacation, more than we could ever manage."
Hansen beamed with pride at the compliment.
