Andre found a rare break in his schedule and decided to take his wife and child to visit the Irvin family. When Molly returned home, Chad was just about to leave for work.

“Chad, are you busy today?” she asked.

“If you want to tag along, just hop in the car,” Chad replied casually.

Molly slid into the passenger seat. “Why are you up so early today?” Chad inquired.

“Henry slept with me last night, and I was worried he'd yank my hair again, so I woke up at five,” Molly explained.

Chad noticed she was acting differently than usual. “I picked up some snacks for you last night, but you weren’t around. They’re in the fridge.”

“Oh, thanks.”

Chad couldn’t quite put his finger on what was going on, so he continued, “I was planning to pick you up today after heading to the station. Last night, I was ready to come get you, but Mom thought you and the Cedillo family could use some alone time, so she told me not to.”

Molly was taken aback. “Mom didn’t let you pick me up?”

Chad nodded, “Yep. Why? Did you want me to?”

Molly shook her head, playing it cool. “Nope.”

At the station, Chad went straight to his office for some paperwork, even though it was supposed to be his day off. He usually kept his weekends open to spend time with Molly. But today, something came up unexpectedly, and his boss called about a case, so he decided to swing by. Plus, it had been ages since he’d seen his mentor, so he thought bringing Molly along would be nice.

While Chad was busy at the station, Molly wandered around, exchanging greetings with familiar faces. “Molly, morning! What’s got you here so early?” someone asked.

The forensic scientist chimed in, “Wow, not sleeping in today?”

Molly’s reputation for being a late riser was well-known, thanks to Chad. Soon, Annie joined them, and Molly momentarily forgot to reply.

“What are you staring at?” the forensic scientist teased.

Molly snapped out of it, “Huh?”

The forensic scientist touched her forehead, “No fever. Could you be pregnant?”

Startled, Molly placed her hands on her belly, eyes twinkling with surprise, “How did you know?”

The forensic scientist was thrilled, “Are you really?”

“Oh, you were just guessing?” Molly felt a bit let down, having thought it might be true.

The forensic scientist carried on, “Wow, Molly, pregnant already?”

Molly cleared up the confusion, “Nope, not pregnant. I thought you figured it out.”

The forensic scientist sighed, “What a mix-up. Got my hopes up for nothing.”

Molly chuckled, “Mine too.”

Chad soon emerged, noticing the conversation. “What’s up?” he asked.

The forensic scientist explained, “Just a false alarm. I thought Molly was pregnant.”

Chad looked at Molly's lingering smile, “We’re not in any rush.”

Mornings are always bustling. Everyone went about their day. Chad took Molly to meet his mentor, while the forensic scientist headed back to her office, hoping for a peaceful day.

“Oh, Chad’s taking me shopping. I’m in the restroom, and he’s waiting outside. That’s the sound of people drying their phones.”

After a bit more chatting and a knock at the door from Madison, they hung up.

Molly emerged from the restroom, and as she stretched her arm, Chad instinctively opened his, letting her loop around him naturally.

Later, Chad went to the station to drop off some documents. The world’s small, and you often run into people you’d rather avoid. Molly bumped into Annie again, who asked, “No kid today?”

Molly replied, “Nope.”

Annie observed, “The kid looks a lot like you.”

Molly thought, as an aunt, her darling nephew would naturally take after her a bit.

When Chad came out, Molly was waiting by the car. “Why are you so well-behaved today, just waiting here?” Chad asked.

Molly teased, “Am I not usually well-behaved?”

“What do you think?”

On the way home, Molly asked, “Chad, that new neighbor of yours, have I met her before?”

Chad glanced at her, keeping his eyes on the road. “Why do you ask?”

“She seems familiar,” Molly said, watching Chad’s reaction.

Chad checked the rearview mirror but didn’t turn to look at her. Molly had only met her a couple of times, and with so much time passed, Chad figured Molly might have forgotten what she looked like.
