Anya had a cheeky idea, "Auntie, why don't you take me to the office with you today?"
Mia glanced up at her, "Let me catch some Z's first, and then I'll take you this afternoon."
By noon, Anya was getting impatient. "Auntie, it's nearly 1 PM, which means it's afternoon already!"
At 1 PM, she nudged again, "Auntie, come on, it's almost 2 PM!"
And by 2 PM, she was practically pleading, "Auntie, we better get going, it's nearly 3 PM and it'll be dark soon."
Mia was still snoozing, with Anya patiently hanging by her bedside, trying her hardest to wake her aunt up.
Finally, at 3 PM, Mia dragged herself out of the air-conditioned comfort, facing the heatwave outside. Anya was on point, holding an umbrella and using a little fan Mia had bought earlier, making sure Mia felt a slight breeze as she led her to the car for the drive to the office.
Mrs. Cedillo's face appeared without a hitch in the CEO's office.
Upon seeing them, Noah remarked, "Ma'am, Anya, you're not here for the CEO, are you?" Noah knew the CEO's office had a little secret — a certain adorable little one.
Mia nodded, "How many times has he cried today?"
"Three times," Noah replied, "It even delayed the CEO's meetings."
Mia opened the door to her husband's office.
Andre, already aware of his wife's arrival, had expected her to walk in. "Henry, your mom's here."
Henry was standing there, holding onto the coffee table, looking like the saddest little thing ever. As soon as he saw his mom, his face crumpled with emotion.
His dad hadn't hit him, scolded him, or anything like that; just seeing his mom made his tears flow, "Waaah, Mommy!"
In his upset state, he clutched the edge of the coffee table and tried to toddle over to her. He wobbled like a tiny chick, nearly toppling over, but managed to regain his balance.
Mia gasped, "Oh my gosh, what has my baby been through to start walking all of a sudden!"
Before Mia could get to him, Anya darted over, scooping up the distressed little guy. After three long days, she finally got to hold Henry, showering him with kisses and bouncing him up and down. "Henry, Auntie Anya missed you so much!"
Henry was so taken aback by Anya's fervor that he forgot to cry. But once Anya calmed down, he burst into tears again, reaching out for his mom.
Mia stepped forward, finally cradling her sweet-smelling little boy.
As soon as Henry started crying, he called out, "Mommy!"
Mia, holding her adorable son, wiped away his tears, "Did Daddy hit you?"
"Mm~"
"Is Andre being a meanie again while Mommy's not around?"
"Yeah, Mommy~" Henry was all set to pin everything on his dad, making him out to be the bad guy.
Mia asked, "Where did he hit you? Your little tushy?"
"Ah, Daddy," Henry sobbed.
Mia translated his babble with a chuckle, "Oh, Andre's turned my son's bottom into two halves. Look how pitiful my son is; come here for a hug."
Henry, pouting pitiably, snuggled into his mom's neck.
Anya was utterly bemused, wondering how her aunt could understand the baby's incoherent mumbles.
Andre watched his wife enter, setting aside what he was doing. He couldn't believe his eyes as his son, yet again, falsely accused him of wrongdoing.
"Henry," Andre called.
Henry, sitting lazily in the walker, wasn't moving a muscle, planning to sit tight until his dad gave up.
Seeing his lazy son, Andre didn't bother with him but asked his wife and niece, "It's almost 5 PM. Should we head out early and have dinner at home or out?"
Anya, reminded of the time, quickly checked her watch and stood up, "Uncle, Auntie, I won't be joining you for dinner. I'm heading home."
Mia looked puzzled, "Home? Weren't you here to see my son?"
Anya bowed her head, sneaking a few more cuddles with Henry, "I'll see him tomorrow. Uncle, Auntie, I'm off now."
She grabbed her bag, gave Henry another quick hug and kiss, and left.
Henry wiped his face, his chubby cheeks showing clear signs of displeasure.
Mia watched Anya rush off, "In such a hurry; is she off to see Leo?"
Andre, catching his nephew's name, steered the conversation away. "So, what are you in the mood for?"
"Going back to my mom's place!"
Andre replied, "…We have to head back to Maplewood Estates tonight."
Mia pursed her lips, clearly not on board with the idea.
Andre continued, "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. Trust me, life’s easier if you just go with the flow."
Still, Mia remained silent.
Andre added, "And don’t even think about letting Henry sleep between us tonight. I only let him nap for an hour today; he'll be out before it gets dark."
With that, Henry, as if on cue, let out a yawn, leaning against his walker, already nodding off.
