Beads of cold sweat broke on Doris' forehead, obviously nervous at the tension that was arising in the room.

Jay, who was intently staring at her, seemed like a predator ready to devour its prey.

And considering that they were a man and woman, alone together in the same room, an undeniable awkward silence fell on them.

"Is there anything wrong with my wound?" Doris was the first one to break the ice, and evidently the one more uncomfortable.

"The external fixator, where your broken bones are, is a little loose. I'll twist it for you," Jay uttered while his eyes remained on her wound. He quickly loosed the nuts and put his thumb on the upper part of her broken bone.

"It's gonna hurt a little, so stay still," he softly said.

Then, taking in mind what Nancy taught him, he quickly twisted Doris' bones.

"If it's inconvenient for you to come to the hospital, you can do it yourself instead," Nancy instructed him. And fortunately, with her help, Jay was able to focus on giving Doris the first aid.

But while he was so engrossed, Doris was a little distracted to see the unusual serious and austere look on his face. She hadn't seen him so absorbed with one thing—let alone with her injury—so fascination beamed in her eyes as she stared at him.

"Am I really that handsome?"

Jay asked, wearing a smug on his lips.

He was used to receiving so much attention from women since he was young. In fact, he had grown used to it that whenever a girl sought after him, he never gave a damn. But now, feeling Doris' intense gaze pierce through him, he suddenly felt a wave of heat surging inside his body.

"Do you think you are a good man, Jay?" Doris abruptly questioned him.

"I'm a man!" he almost yelled in disbelief. Then, after disinfecting the wound and wrapping it with medical gauze, he asked, "Are you a bad person?"

"What?!" Doris asked back, not expecting that kind of question from him. She was stunned for a moment, and for a while, grappled with finding the right words to say.

"I am a poor person," she finally responded with a straight face.

Jay merely sported a wicked smile and didn't dare to say anything. He was afraid that Doris would get mad again if he was to respond to her statement.

But in reality, he was slightly distressed to know nothing about her. Ever since they met, Doris had never mentioned anything about her family or where she came from.

Even Nancy had also never mentioned it to anyone, not even to Charles.

And although he'd been meaning to ask, Jay was aware he didn't have the right to do that. After all, it was clear that Doris wanted to keep her privacy.

"Your broken leg is very fragile, so you can't be injured again. If you cause another inflammation, you will become permanently disabled!" he warned, finishing the last touches in the first-aid procedure.

"Alright. I'll be careful," Doris simply answered. Then, she turned her head and surveyed the entire room. It was painted in gray-blue, and although the decorations were minimal, the whole place screamed luxury to her.

"I think I better go to the guest room," she said, recognizing that there was no way she'd stay and spend the night in his room. Jay ignored her remark and instead asked, "How did you fall exactly?" He thought it was still a little weird for Doris to fall accidentally, though she was indeed careless.

In fact, it seemed really strange that Jay could think of only two possibilities.

Either she really fell herself on purpose, or it was Winnie who was behind it!

If it was the latter, he could forgive it, but if it was the former...

'So, does Doris have a crush on me?' he thought thoroughly, feeling a little excitement in his bones.

"It was an accident." Of course, Doris wanted to get Winnie out of the villa, but she was not stupid. She would never tell him the truth.

At this point, it would be better for her to keep her mouth shut and say nothing.

Deep down, Doris saw Winnie as a rival, a threat in her relationship with Jay.

"Really?" Jay asked while staring at her with a pair of skeptic eyes.

Embarrassed, Doris lowered her head. She could feel the heat slowly gathering to her cheeks, so she kept her mouth shut for a while. Then, after a short hesitation, she replied, "Yes."

Her evasive answer and equivocal tone of made Jay even more suspicious.

And because the latter didn't know what to believe or say, he went out to confirm his suspicion.

Meanwhile, Doris was left thinking that he would scold Winnie if he were to find out the truth. But surprisingly, when he got back inside, he uttered a completely different sentence.

"Doris, you sleep with me tonight,"

Jay ordered with a straight face while crossing his arms against his chest.

And although he sounded so calm in saying it, those words exploded in Doris' head like a bomb.

'What did he say? Sleep with him?

Isn't this too fast?'

Meanwhile, Jay was busy reading some files in the study and didn't go back to the bedroom until nearly twelve o'clock. He was doing everything he could to stay away from Doris. If he were to shower her with so much attention, Jay was worried Winnie would do something to her again. That girl would always go lunatic whenever she was jealous.

He still remembered when Winnie pushed a girl into a pool out of jealousy. The poor girl, who only wanted to play with him, almost drowned while Winnie stood on the bridge, clapping her hands delightedly. "If you approach Jay again, I'll kill you."

Because of this incident, no girl ever dared to get close to him again.

For some time, he was grateful since it saved a lot of trouble. But now that he had finally found the right woman for him, Winnie would stand a big headache for him.

So after keeping himself busy, he took a shower and chose to lay down on the sofa in his bedroom.

At the same time, Doris was still wide awake, anticipating what Jay would do to her in the middle of the night.

But to her dismay, he did nothing or even sleep on the same bed with her.

He fell asleep soon after lying on the sofa as if she didn't exist!

And as the darkness seeped in through the night, amidst the stillness of the room, Doris could hear nothing but his rhythmic breathing.

'Unbelievable!

Did he feel nothing in his body at all?'

Doris thought in utter disbelief, feeling a torn piercing her heart.

Thoroughly annoyed, she got out of bed quietly, grabbed her crutch, and tiptoed to stand in front of Jay.

In the dark, with his head on one side, Doris could see his well-sculpted face. His sharp jaw, thick brows, pointy nose, and luscious lips made him look like a prince straight out of fairy tale.

This man was really gorgeous. Too bad, he was too dense!

"You said you liked me, and yet you ignore me like this. Were you just lying?" Doris asked in a low voice, thinking that he was asleep soundly. But to her surprise, he suddenly turned around and grabbed her hand.

"Who are you?" he asked in an alarmed tone.

Jay had learned martial arts since childhood. Even if he was in a deep sleep, any faint sound would wake him up the instant it reached his ears.

And now, because of Doris' whisper, he was suddenly alarmed that he grabbed her wrist tightly. His grip was too firm that it caused her to lose her balance, tipping on her toes and wounding up on top of him.
