Charles opened the window and gave the policeman a cold look. He handed the policeman his ID and said, "Sir, here is my ID. If there is a problem, I hope we can settle it later. I am really in a hurry!"
"Charles Fu..." The policeman said his name out loud.
Charles simply nodded in response.
"Oh, you're Mr. Fu. I'm sorry." Everyone in the city knew Charles. The policeman promptly returned his ID after just a brief scan.
Charles took back his ID, and then he sped away.
"Hey! You are not exempted from the speed limit!" the policeman shouted.
Charles was gone way before the policeman could finish his sentence.
The car's engine violently whirred as Charles stepped on the gas. Nancy hugged him even more tightly.
He didn't did not mind the traffic police. The man simply wanted to get to their villa as soon as possible.
Finally, they had parked. Charles rushed to open Nancy's door, then carried the lady out of the car and into the house.
He quickly managed opened the villa's door. Charles went straight to the bathroom with Nancy in his arms.
Without much thought, he drew Nancy a bath.
"Nancy, take a good long bath. I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything, okay?" Charles could finally breathe again. The man sighed in relief. It was only at that point when Charles realized how exhausted he was. His clothes were even soaked with sweat.
"Please don't go. I beg you, Charles... Don't go!" Nancy held him tightly. She was still flustered and disoriented.
She was extremely scared, just as the night when she learned about her mother's car accident. Nancy watched as people rolled her mother into the ambulance. Even until that day, she could vividly picture her mother's blood-covered body.
"What's wrong with Mommy?" At that moment, she could hear her younger self cry out. No one answered.
"What's wrong with my mommy? Please tell me!" She cried out once again.
A maid looked at her and gently said, "Your mother was in a car accident, dear. That was why she was taken by the ambulance. Did you see her?” At that point, Nancy's world fell silent.
"Will mom die?" Nancy said in a very low voice. The girl wanted to cry but she felt numb.
'Tm sorry, dear. I really don't know..." the maid answered aptly.
"I don't want my mom to die!" Nancy exclaimed. Then the maid comforted her before leaving.
That day was unusually cold for Nancy. She was petrified. Nancy found herself idly standing as she stared blankly into the walls.
"Good girl, have a good long bath. Don't worry, I'm right next door. Just call me if you need anything," Charles said as he kissed her forehead. Nancy bounced back into reality.
"No, Charles. Please don't leave me alone!" Nancy instinctively grabbed his hand. She needed someone to be with her. She was afraid of the helplessness she felt, more so of the loneliness that came with it.
"I won't be leaving you. I'm right here. I'll always be here. Now, wash yourself and be careful with that wound. Look at it... The wound is here, okay?" Charles said ever so gently.
"It hurts, Charles! It hurts!"
"The wound? You don't have to take a bath... How about we go back to your room?" Charles asked. He knew that Nancy's wound could not touch water.
The man drained some water off from the bathtub. Charles was hoping that a bath would help Nancy regain a stable mental state.
Nancy did not say a word and simply shook her head.
"Okay, I'll take a bath as well!" Charles went out and took a shower in the bathroom next door.
He took a quick shower and then immediately walked out. At that point, Nancy was still inside of the bathroom.
Charles saw Nancy in tears as he rushed inside of the bathroom.
"Nancy, what's wrong?" the man asked softly.
Charles made sure to check and clean Nancy's wound before he slept.
A few drops of blood seeped out of the wound, wetting the gauze that Charles had wrapped. "Nancy, does your wound hurt?" The man was dearly worried.
"Yes! It hurts!" Nancy didn't want to play strong. She decided to completely trust Charles and gave him full authority over her recovery.
Charles sighed and began to bind her wound once again.
"What's going on with me, Charles?" From Nancy's point of view, everything that transpired that day was hazy at best. The only thing that she was certain of was her abduction from the hospital-and that Caspar masterminded it.
"What's wrong with my father?" Nancy asked.
"He's fine. Caspar had lied to you. Don't worry about anything else for now. You need to focus on taking good care of yourself." Charles had almost finished binding her wound. "I suspect that it was Caspar who took you away before," the man said bitterly.
Nancy could not find her words. It seemed that she didn't have the ability to comprehend anything complicated. However, she was relieved to know that her father was fine.
However, she would again welcome sadness as Charles said,
"Nancy, if Clark had conspired to set you up, would you hate him?"
Nancy thought for a while and shook her head slowly. "No, I can't hate him. I know him! As Clark is, he won't be able to influence Jill and Caspar in any way! Even if he turned out to be an accomplice, I would believe that he was forced to do so!"
Charles chuckled, "Yes, you're right. When Clark was in the Ning residence, he tried his best to save you. After all, you are his daughter, right?"
Did he really want to save me?" Nancy felt warmth in her heart. She had lived most of her life hating her father.
Nancy believed that Clark was responsible for all the suffering she and her mother had.
She would have never thought that Clark would oppose Jill. Nancy used to believe that her father could not do anything for her sake.
"It's true! I don't have any reason to lie to you!" Charles said in a serious tone.
