PHOENIX
Six months later…
Do you know it’s difficult to wake up someone who pretends to be asleep? And do you know when someone doesn’t like doing has always found thousands of reasons to avoid it? Well, yeah because I’ve been there—waking up someone who pretended to sleep, and gave me thousands of reasons every day.
“Princess, I swear to God I will drag your sweet ass to the doctor if you won’t get up and get dressed right now!” I shake her shoulder under the blanket, but she never budges.
She covers herself when I shout her name from our bedroom door. I’m already on my second cup of coffee, waiting for her to wake up until I decide to come to our bed and shake her.
Now, I can’t wait anymore because I had to move our doctor’s appointment three times just for this week.
“Go away, Phoenix! I need some sleep!” My wife slips her hand out of the blanket, gesturing to shoo me away.
“Samantha, that’s not healthy for you and the baby if you just sleep all night and day. You have to wake up and eat at least.” I sit on the bed beside her.
She removes the blanket and throws it down her feet, then sits up straight with her half-closed eyes and messy bedhead hair.
“Who said I’m pregnant?” she asks, glaring.
My eyes land to her naked chest. I ignore the dirty thoughts forming in my brain. I let her stop taking her pills after our wedding three months ago. She didn’t argue with me, and I was so happy that we were on the same side.
I was thrilled when she told me she has missed her period four weeks ago and it’d been three weeks since I tried convincing her to visit an obstetrician that Abby recommended for us. But Samantha is Samantha Stubborn Williams, and she just bought a pregnancy home kit and checked it for herself.
“Then get dressed for us to figure it out,” I suggest, taking her hand with me.
She pulls it back. “I’m not pregnant, Phoenix. That sticks lied, and I tried three times—”
I cut in. “And it gave the same positive results, right?”
“Yeah, but—”
“No, but, just get dressed, and we have an appointment in an hour.”
“I don’t have morning sickness. I’ve only missed my period, Phoenix.” She starts to lie back, so I grab her hand to stay still.
“It never happened before so, we’ll figure out that too, and not all pregnant women suffer from morning sickness.”
She glares at me again. “You don’t know that because you would never get pregnant, You have a penis.”
“Oh, I do know, my love. According to one of the books I read, 30% of pregnant women skipped from morning sickness. I think you are one of the 30% lucky women who have a good pregnancy.”
She looks surprised. “How did you know that?”
She asks and looks at me amazed. “Oh, princess, while you were busy reasoning out, I was busy reading books that Seb threw to me. He was done reading those anyway before Lizzy even born.”
“Really?” She smiles genuinely.
I kiss her lips. “Yeah, princess. Now, please, no more escaping an appointment. I was lucky the receptionist was very nice at me.”
She scowls. “Was she flirting with you?”
I can’t help but grin, then cup her beautiful face. “God, you’re sexy when you’re jealous.” I kiss her again.
“I’m not jealous!” she snaps.
“Don’t be angry, my love. It affects the baby’s health. You’ll be even sexier when your pregnancy grows.”
She snorts, “Who said a pregnant elephant is sexy?”
“Me?”
“Liar!”
“Elephant or not, you’re still sexy in my eyes.”
“You just want to poke me every night. That’s why you’re telling me that,”
“My love, I love poking you every night because I can’t get enough of you.”
Finally, we are only waiting for a pregnant woman to finish, then it’s our turn. Samantha laughed her ass out loud when she found out the receptionist was about her mother’s age.
“Let us start searching a name for our baby,” I suggest.
“It’s too early for that, don’t you think? We still don’t know if I am really pregnant, and I don’t wanna disappoint you.”
“You will not disappoint me. I will poke you every night to make babies till we can’t anymore move.”
She barks out laughing. Her eyes glimmer, and she’s so beautiful. I want to grab her to the janitor’s room of this hospital and take her there.
“Well, if a girl?”
“We will name her Mikayla, Ranyah, Layla, Payton, Ashley, Alessandra, Jasmine, Destiny, Faith, Kiara, Aubrey?”
“Are you sure they weren’t your fuck buddy?”
My eyes widen. “Why are you saying like that?”
She shrugs but doesn’t answer me.
“My love, I marry you because I love you so much, and you matter to me more than anything in this world and more than the air that I breathe. We’re gonna be parents, Samantha. I marry you because you are the only one that I chose to spend my life with, not the other woman that doesn’t even exist.” She smiles with a glint in her eyes, then she stands up.
“Evil!” I mutter under my breath.
“I hear that.”
“I know.”
“I love you too, Phoenix.”
“Good.”
“Mrs. Samantha Williams,” The receptionist that Samantha is jealous of calls us.
“That’s my wife!” I chirpily say, raising my hand.
“I want tiramisu!” My head snaps at her who’s eating sour candies in the passenger seat. She doesn’t even grimace and keeps popping candies in her mouth like it doesn’t taste sour.
My face contorts. “Are you sure you don’t eat too much of that already, my love?”
“Just shut up, and I want a tiramisu ice cream.”
