Chapter 202
This has been one hell of a game. Unfortunately, we lost by four points, but I don’t think my performance was bad. We did well as a team, but surely, there were mistakes that we could learn from.
I check my phone after I finish showering and frown when I see the amount of missed calls and texts. This isn’t normal. What increases my anxiety as I scroll through the notifications is that none of them is from Rosie. Everybody has practically called me except for Rosie.
I call my dad, already feeling on edge. Maybe I’m just paranoid and nothing is wrong, but that doesn’t feel right.
“Dad, I’ve just finished the game. What’s going on?” I quickly ask once he picks up.
“Son, you need to come over as soon as possible,” Dad says. He sounds worried and breathless.
“What’s going on?” I ask, shoving my stuff in my bag.
“It’s a long story but Lily and Aniyah got kidnapped by Everest.” My eyes widen at what I have just heard. “He contacted Rosie because he wanted a ransom from her. Luckily, she informed one of the guards on her way out of the house, and they managed to track the car she got in. We informed the police and they’re currently searching for them. This is too much to take in. I’m shocked to the point that I don’t know what to say.
“What do you mean by that? Rosie is missing along with the girls?” I’m already running out of the locker room and heading to the car.
“Yes.” He sighs and my heart slams against my chest. I had a feeling that she sounded different when I called her before the game. I believed her when she said that she only sounded like that because she was watching The Vow. She lied to me. She lied to me to save Lily and Aniyah.
“Did they find them?” I turn on the car and drive as fast as I can to my parents‘ place.
“Not yet, but we’re doing everything in our power to find them. I’m not depending on the police only,” Dad tells me.
I’m going to murder those guards who let her go out on her own especially after she told them that she was basically going to throw herself in danger.
“I’m coming now,” I tell him and hang up.
I let out a scream as I drive and hit the stirring wheel in frustration. Not knowing where three of the most important women in my life are is killing me. I can’t believe that they are all in danger and it’s all because of Everest. I don’t know why he’s back and what he wants, but all I know is that I’m going to skin him alive if he hurts any of them.
It doesn’t take me a lot of time to reach my parents‘ place and the moment I do, I find my parents and Rosie’s parents running out of the front door. My stomach drops as my mind thinks about nothing but worst–case scenarios.
“What’s going on? Do you have any news about them?” I quickly ask, getting out of the car.
“They found them! They’ve been taken to the hospital,” Julian answers quickly.
“Which one?” I ask, already jumping in my car again.
“St. Peter,” Mum replies as she gets inside the car with me and Dad does the same.
“How are they? Is any of them hurt?” I ask. Does it make me a bad brother that I want to know how Rosie is? Part of me is certain that Everest wouldn’t hurt the girls, because they’re not the ones he wants. Rosie is his target. That’s why I’m more worried about her.
“Lily and Aniyah are in shock, but they’re physically okay,” Mum answers, and I wait for her to say anything about Rosie, but

she doesn’t.
“And Rosie?” I speak. Impatience is already taking over me.
“Rosie is alive,” Dad replies, and I frown.
“Alive is not enough, Dad! She needs to be alive and okay!” I exclaim, speeding up.
“We don’t know the extent of her injuries,” he tells me, and I suck in my breath.

“She’s going to be okay, Silas,” Mum tries to assure me, but I shake my head. I’m not sure of arfything. I need to see my wife with my own eyes to make sure that she’s okay. I need to hold her for as long as I can and apologize for not hiring better security.
“They caught Everest, right?” If he’s still out there, I’m going to wage a war.
“He’s dead, son,” Dad replies. I never thought that someone’s death could bring me so much relief like this.
I feel like we arrive at the hospital after an eternity. The moment we do, I run inside and ask for my wife
I dash towards the room she’s being treated in, and I find Lily and Aniyah in front of me. They’re fourteen years old, but suddenly, they look so much younger.
Lily is the first to notice me and once she does, she runs towards me and Aniyah follows her. I take the two of them in my arms and hold them tightly.
“Are you all right? Did he do anything to you?” I ask them.
“We’re okay,” Aniyah whispers. We slowly break the hug, and I look at their faces, making sure with my own eyes that they’re fine. I look at their hands and find the skin around their wrists slightly red.
“Did he tie you up?” I inquire, looking at their wrist.
“Duct tape,” Lily replies.
“We’re fine, Silas. They didn’t hurt us, but Rosie had it way worse” Aniyah tells me, making my blood run cold. They? How many people were there?
“Did
you see her?”
“We saw her for less than a couple of minutes when Everest’s friend brought her, then we saw her here when the ambulance brought her a little while after we were brought,” Lily explains. There are so many things I want to ask about, but Rosie is my priority now.
“She’s inside, right?” I wonder, motioning to the room I was told she’s in. Aniyah nods. I leave the girls to their parents and try to look through the small glass window of the door, attempting to catch a glimpse of Rosie.
Luckily, a doctor opens the door and walks out.
“Doctor, I’m Silas Cromwell, Rosie’s husband. Is she okay?” I ask him.
“Thankfully, she doesn’t have any serious injury. Just some bruises and a mild concussion. She only needs to stay here for one night to make sure that she’s okay and you can take her home tomorrow.” I sigh in relief when he says that.
Just some bruises. That’s good. There’s nothing physical that I should worry about.
“Can I see her?”
“Of course, but only one person is allowed inside this room. The rest of you can see her once she’s transferred to her private
