Jasmine’s anger flared. She jabbed a finger at him. “Another word out of you, and I’ll shred our contract right here and now.”

Gabriel raised his hands in mock surrender. “Fine. If you wanna cozy up to a possible backstabber, be my guest.‘ Jasmine ignored him, pivoting toward Alex with a remorseful look.

“I’m sorry. My top guards are in Los Angeles with my father, and the rest followed Charles. These elite soldiers? They’re from my mother’s side of the family.”

Alex shrugged, calm as ever. “Doesn’t matter. We’re here for one reason–to get Kelly back. We’re not exactly on vacation.”

She offered a small smile of gratitude. “I appreciate that.”

With a curt nod to the gathering crowd, Jasmine barked, “Alright, everyone. On the plane. Let’s move.”

They boarded the private jet and took off, streaking across the sky toward the Vermont border.

Their destination: Jericho Kane’s secluded estate. The tension in the cabin was thick enough to taste–every glance from Gabriel was laced with distrust, every exchange loaded with unspoken threats.

“Kelly killed one of my most prized students. If I release her without compensation, I lose every ounce of respect in this region. That’s not how I do business.”

Jasmine’s voice turned razor–sharp. “So what’s your price?”

Jericho’s lips curled in a predatory grin. “Simple. You owe me for my loss. That student wasn’t just any grunt–I poured a fortune into him. Training. Medicine. The works. He was meant to succeed me. I want half of your Kingston holdings in Vancouver. And that’s me being generous.”

Jasmine’s eyes flashed with anger. “Half my business? Over a single death? You’re delusional.”

Jericho spread his hands. “It’s a drop in the bucket for a family like yours. You’ll hardly feel it.”

“And if I tell you to shove your demands where the sun doesn’t shine?”

He let out a soft laugh. “Then Kelly’s future remains… bleak.”

She clenched her jaw. “You’re threatening me.”

“She put up quite a fight,” Jericho said, sounding almost impressed. “We had to teach her a lesson. She was like an unbroken stallion–no discipline whatsoever.”

Jasmine ran up to Kelly, slicing the ropes loose with a small knife. “Kelly, talk to me. You alright?”

Kelly swallowed hard. “Just a few bruises. I’ll survive.”

As she stepped aside, Kelly locked eyes with Alex for a brief moment–an unspoken exchange of relief and concern passing between them.

Jericho’s voice cut in, silky and smug. “See? I’m a man of my word. Now I expect you to be one of yours. The contract is ready.”

A servant stepped forward, proffering a neatly printed document.

Jasmine scanned the text and then signed with a flourish, her heart hammering. She couldn’t show fear, not now.

The moment her signature was on the paper, Jericho’s confidence blazed. “I admire your courage, Miss Kingston. I really do.”
