‘Well, that wasn’t so comforting,’ Charlie thought. Her relationship with Taylor wasn’t even official yet, but she was already feeling the anxiety!

“Well, I’ll try to be open-minded,” Charlie said. “Wait, we didn’t finish our conversation earlier. Who in your family is involved in politics now?”

Before Taylor could answer, Tristan looked at Charlie and said, “My mom is City Hall’s Director of Finance.”

“Oh, so it’s your mom then?” Charlie clarified.

“Um—” Taylor wavered, running his hand through his golden hair. He said, “Um. Charlie, I’m a Carrington, remember?”

Charlie frowned. ‘Why did he remind me of his middle name?’

“Carrington,” she echoed. Then, it hit her. Charlie searched on her phone. She strengthened her voice when she found the name. “Governor Douglas Carrington?”

“Yep!” Taylor and Tristan said at the same time.

“That’s Grandpa,” Tristan revealed.

“It’s Grandpa’s second term as governor, but before that, he was the town’s mayor for twelve years,” Taylor explained. “My aunt, Tanya’s mom, was elected mayor six years ago, but after just one term, she decided to focus on running the family business—”

“And that is?” Charlie asked.

“There is a Carrington nut plantation just outside Luxford,” Tristan revealed.

“A plantation? That must be fun!” Charlie exclaimed.

“If you want to go, we can go there. Right, Taylor?” Tristan said.

Charlie turned to Taylor excitedly. She had never been to a farm, so she looked forward to it. “Can we?”

“Do you want to harvest nuts, Charlie?” Taylor asked.

“I love nuts!” Charlie exclaimed. “I love almonds, and I love pistachios the most!”

“Okay, Babe,” Taylor said, pulling her closer. “I’ll schedule a visit soon. In the meantime, we have a good amount of nuts in the pantry. We can take them to the condo.”

He pressed his lips against her ear, saying, “I also happen to carry nuts all the time.”

“Ha?” Charlie leaned back, confused. “I don’t see you eating nuts!”

A mischievous grin spread across his face as he clarified, “Not that kind of nuts.”

Charlie instantly gave him the finger, saying, “I don’t eat those kinds of nuts!”
