(Eden’s Pov)

King Pison immediately pulled away from me.

I had no idea what happened, but I suddenly felt anger surge in him.

I figured it must be related to the person who knocked on the door. The news he delivered to Pison must have set him off.

I watched him in confusion, desperate to know exactly what was going on.

I was here on a mission after all, and I wouldn't mind doing whatever it took to get Pison wrapped between my fingers, as long as I wouldn’t sleep with him or do anything intimate with him. The goal is to seduce him, sweet talk him into waiting for me and all that… and then strike hard!

“What is it?” I asked him

Pison looked at me. I saw his eyes darken with desire, his jaw ticked furiously as he swallowed back.

“Palace business.” Pison answered softly.

I swallowed the bile that rose in my chest as I made up my mind to get my answer. I pursed my lips and placed one hand on his chest.

I felt Pison struggle slightly before he growled. He couldn’t hold himself.

“Tell me, what is it?” I asked again.

He grabbed my wrist and halted the movement of my fingers his skin “Intruders.” Pison said. “They've caught the intruders.”

My blood went cold.

Intruders? What intruders?

Pison pulled away again, this time keeping a safe distance from me lest he get distracted again.

“I need to attend to it; wait here.” Pison told me as he moved away from me and went straight to his wardrobe to dress up.

My heart thumped heavily. Could it be Eros and my parents?

A part of the plan was to invade after I was able to get to Pison, but then were they the intruders that were caught? Or was it someone else?

I panicked.

It killed me not knowing exactly who it was they had captured, but I had a feeling this was bad, very bad. I couldn’t shake off the fear and despair that snaked itself over me.

I followed Pison as he was about to leave. He stopped and turned to me.

“You should stay here.” He said.

I shook my head quickly. “No.”

As soon as the words were out of my lips, I knew I had made a mistake. That was too quick.

Pison paused and gave me a long look. I could see the doubt in his eyes.

He was beginning to get suspicious of me.

I felt a great urge to jump on him and claw out his heart, but I knew I would be torn to pieces before I could try that.

Pison wasn’t alone. His supporters are as ruthless and evil as he was, and it would be a terrible mistake to make a drastic decision.

“Here they are,” I heard one of the warriors say just as he led us to a stop in front of the intruders.

My parents.

I shivered as I recognized them despite the bruises they had on their body from the beating they received.

I froze.

Pison must have seen my reaction; he watched me carefully before he asked. “You looked shocked. Do you know them?” He asked with raised brows.

I pursed my lips, my mind wheeling as I tried to come up with the best response.

Pison made a dangerous growl and moved closer to me. “Why are you quiet?”

I thought about lying, acting as if I had no idea who they were just to protect them, but I also knew that was the wrong choice.

Pison could have them tortured or worse, kill them.

I shook my head. With a vulnerable look on my face, I held Pison in a slightly intimate way “They are my parents. Your future-in-laws…”

Pison’s eyes widened in shock as my parents exchanged a glance. Dead silence filled the air.
