(Alice's Pov)
She was definitely crazy.
My hand loosened around Eden’s neck and I allowed it to fall to my side in confusion
while I stared at Eden
Her laughter mocked me. It was as if she knew something I haven't figured out, and It was obvious Eden wasn't scared of me. She smirked and straightened her dress before crossing her arms to face me head on.
I felt a small shiver but still maintained my cold demeanor “What is so funny?” I snared at her.
"Just the lady in front of me," She shrugged.
I frowned. “What do you mean?” I asked.
“You are just pathetic.” Eden spat out.
I felt a surge of anger grow in me. “Are you insane?”
She looked around as she sighed. “ You are nothing but a nasty betrayer. First, you killed Nova, then you tried to kill me... It is how far you are willing to go to have your evil desires."
I sucked my teeth. “Aren't you doing the same thing? Betraying your mate? I can see how you are sucking up to Pison just so he can make you the queen. You act like you love your precious mate, but here you are.”
Eden cocked a grin. “My mate has nothing to do with this, besides who wouldn't want to be queen with so much power to control?” She took a step forward, her face in mine. “Seeing how desperate you want it, you must have sold yourself to try to get your hands on the crown,"
I felt shame wash over me, but I swallowed it back. “Watch what you say to me” I growled.
“Or what?” Eden shook her head. “You disgust me. You are nothing but a piece of rag, used and discarded. You fell for the little tricks of people who care less about you. You make me sick.”
Hot tears pricked at my eyes. My heart hung heavy at the hurtful words Eden threw at me. I never imagined that Eden would say things to hurt me, even though I tried to kill her. She was always sweet and dotting to me.
Her wordings hurt so much.
But she was right. It was something I knew deep down in my heart that I was only a pawn in the hands of Lyra, Arthur and Pison.
That was why I was so desperate to become the queen and up until I saw Eden showed up... Memories of the times we spent as friends washed over me again and my breath hitched.
“How about you?” I said in a whisper. “Didn't you use me the same way?” I started
Eden frowned and moved her head away from me. “What are you talking about?”
I laughed bitterly. “We used to be friends, very close friends...” I said more passionately.
“We were friends, then we fell apart.” Eden said.
“Fell apart?” I scoffed. “What a nice way to put it. It was all your fault. You broke us, what we had, what we shared. You ruined it the moment you began to befriend the hybrids. So I did what I had to do to survive without you.”
Eden chuckled. “Of course, you did what you had to do. How about Nova? Go on, and blame others for your mistakes."
I balled my fists. I expected her to channel her sympathy. That was the aim of playing the victim card.
“You bitch!” I hissed.
Eden acted fast, too fast for me to predict. I was suddenly shoved against the wall, my back hitting the brick with a force that sent pain through my spine.
Sussie entered and looked around my room, inspecting, before she finally gave me her full attention, her chin titled in a haughty manner
“I won't take too long saying this.” Sussie started “I believe we share a common enemy, Eden.” She said bitterly.
I watched her closely. “Really?” I asked cautiously.
“I'm here to make a deal.” Sussie frowned. “Killing that bitch was harder than I thought.”
I raised a brow in surprise. “Sounds like you have tried to.”
Sussie smirked. “Of course. I locked her in a cave with Eros and I thought she would die when he did, but I have no idea how that snake escaped even though the cave collapsed.” Sussie confessed.
“Eros? Is he alive?” I asked in surprise. I thought Pison killed him.
“No,” Sussie smiled. “There is no way he would have survived even if Eden did.”
I couldn’t brush off how familiar Sussie looked, especially her mannerism. “Have we met before now?” I asked.
Sussie smiled and nodded. “I thought you wouldn't remember. We have, back in highschool. I was friends with Eros and the other hybrids before Eden came.” She bawled her fists
Everything suddenly fell into place. Sussie.
The girl who was seldom in school, and who Eros and his group tolerated because of her father's relationship with the palace. None of them liked her, neither did I.
However, I suddenly saw a great opportunity right before me. Sussie was Eden’s sworn enemy, and so was I. I could accept Sussie’s help to get rid of Eden, but also get rid of Sussie.
Only I deserves to be queen...
