Chapter 197

At Emery’s shop, the atmosphere was so quies you could hear a pin drop.

Ensery’s hands trembled as she held her phone, her breaths coming quickly. Finally, she lung her phone onto the couch. “That bitch! How dare she treat my girl like this! I’m so angry!”

She tumed, her eyes red and glared at Dominick. “This is what you call a misunderstanding? A misunderstanding! Dominick, you bastard, you actually stood up for those kinds of people! No wonder Paisley luates you. I hate you too!

“Christina doesn’t even deserve to be called a mother! What kind of mother treats her daughter like that?

“And Gregory–he’s the greediest of them all. If your biological daughter ran away for years, would you just ignore it? Misunderstanding? He probably said Paisley had a bad temper and refused to apologize, didn’t het

“Dominick, you were married to Paisley for four years. Don’t you know what kind of person she is? If she wasn’t completely heartbroken, why would she leave! Just like when she left you–she had given up hope.

“Thonestly don’t understand why you came to see me today Emery was so furious she could barely speak.

Dominick’s face looked pale, and his mind replayed Christina’s cruel words toward Paisley

The reason he had come today was because of what Gregory had said the night before.

Gregory had claimed there were misunderstandings between Paisley and the Sullivan family, and Dominick thought that if those misunderstandings could be resolved, Paisley might still have a family to return to in Harrowfell

More than anyone, Dominick knew how much Paisley longed for a sense of home. But now, it was clear that his actions today had been utterly foolish. The Sullivan family was not worthy of Paisley at all.

“Alright. I know what I need to do now,” Dominick said, lowering his head as he walked out. His bangs fell over his eyes, hiding the icy coldness in his gaze.

Just as he reached the door, he stopped and turned to look at the still–fuming Emery.

Soon after, his assistant called with more bad news. “Mr. Sullivan, as of now, three of our partner companies have decided to terminate their contracts with us, What’s going on?”

Gregory stumbled back onto the couch, overcome with panic. The Sullivan Group didn’t have many partnerships to begin with. Their main source of income came from Vanderbilt Group’s contracts, which had encouraged other companies to work with them out of respect for Vanderbilt. But now, those companies were quickly distancing themselves, no doubt due to the message Vanderbilt Group had sent out

Christina and Brittany returned, oblivious to Gregory’s unusually tense demeanor. Slumping onto the sofa, Christina immediately began complaining about Paisley. “Gregory, I’m telling you, Paisley is unbelievable! She told me to get lost today, in front of everyone! She’s so ungrateful what a disgrace!”

“You went to see Paisley Gregory’s voice was cold, his face unreadable.

“Yes, I did. Why? I wanted her to help Brittany and Dominick reconcile. She’s already divorced him. Such a good man shouldn’t end up with some outsider. But that girl, she-

Slap! Christina didn’t get to finish her sentence. Gregory’s palm struck her face with a resounding force, leaving her stunned and speechless. “Dad! How could you hit Mom?” Brittany shouted, but her body instinctively moved away, afraid Gregory’s next slap would land on her. Gregory turned his gaze to Brittany, his chest heaving. After a moment of silence, he spoke in a low, firm voice, “Brittany, leave the Sullivan family
