Chapter 18: Claire’s POV
After my nap, I finished unpacking and putting away my things. There was no need to put off the inevitable. I would be staying here for a while.
I then decide to walk downstairs and grab a glass of water and grab my bag.
I rummaged through my bag looking for Jordan’s card. I still wanted to work and it was more important now, that I save money for my child. After I found the card, I placed it back in my bag and called Jordan. Hopefully he had or knew of a job opportunity for me.
“Hello, JT Constructs and Company. This is Jordan.”
“Hey Jordan, it’s Claire. You know how I said I
wanted to get back into my work?” I say with a
little enthusiasm. Jordan was the kind of friend and help I needed right now.
“Hey Claire, I was hoping you’d call! I was worried about you. And I distinctively remember a comeback being mentioned.” His teasing made me feel a little at ease.
“I’m doing fine. Would you maybe want to meet me for a coffee? There’s a brew–new cafe nearby.”
“I always have time for you, Claire. I’ll see you there in ten?”
“Sounds good. Thank you Jordan.”
“Always a pleasure.”
With that, I hang up and go to put my glass of water in the kitchen, grab a snack or two for my bag as pregnancy has made me famished and called a cab in my way out the door.
Ten minutes later, I arrive at the cafe where I can see Jordan has already grabbed a table for us near the front window. He had even ordered us both coffees. I made my way into the cafe and met Jordan at the table.
“Hey Claire, I know you’re pregnant so I got you a decaf. Two creamers and three spoons of sugar. I hope that’s how you still like it.” He stood to greet me and I instinctively leaned in for a friendly hug. It felt nice to have a friend right now. I didn’t want to overbear Jasmine with my problems.
“You remembered?” He had gotten my coffee exactly how I liked it. Minus the decaf, which was a fine adjustment being he remembered I was pregnant.
“Build a baby nursery and I’m in.” I smile thinking about what I had said.
“Add in a masonry theme and I’m there.” He smiled.
“We’ll see. Anyways I wanted to see if you knew of any job opportunities for me. I still want to get back to work and I need to find a place that’ll take me.” I ask almost desperately.
“I have the perfect place for you. I need a new blueprint and architectural drafter for a few projects at my company. I’d love to have your skillset on my side.” He smiled.
“Really?”
“Claire, you’re one of the hardest workers I know and I watched you excel in school. I know you’re more than capable.”
“I won’t let you down.” I felt honored that Jordan was giving me such a big break and opportunity even without the experience.
Just as I was smiling at Jordan, I see him redirect his stare, turn a bit more serious and feel a hand place itself firmly on my shoulder. I turn to look up at see Leonardo standing over me.
