Ollie gave an apologetic look in Lark’s direction, “I’m sorry Lark.”

“Get to it,” Max waved at her angrily.

“I left out a few details about my relationship two years ago.”

“This should be good,” Johan snorted. “Let me guess. You were running drugs for him and after finding out he was married you decided to take off with his product? Now he wants you to pay him back.”

Ollie smacked him, “not funny.”

“I don’t know. I feel like it’s on par with s**t you would do.”

“Why are you angry with me?” Ollie asked Johan.

“Where were you today when I needed you?”

“I was busy. Excuse me for not parting my legs.”

“Whoa!” Johan held his hand up furiously, “is this what you thought? I wanted to f**k around again? We both agreed it was a one-and-done. I needed my friend today, Ollie, and you were so selfishly wrapped up in your s**t you couldn’t even be bothered to ask me what was wrong.”

“Guys,” Lark interrupted. “Johan, you can fight with Ollie later. Right now, she needs us, all of us. Ollie, all of it. Tell them all of it.”

“I don’t want to! They’re already being judgemental assholes.”

“Because we know you did something to put Lark in danger. It’s your method of operation, Ollie. If you’re going down, you take your friends with you.” Johan grumbled. “Seriously Lark, you should have stayed in Houston.”

“You’re being a d**k!” Ollie spit angrily.

“Enough!” Lark cut in again, “would you please finish the story because we can’t do this on our own. We need help.”

“I knew it,” Johan growled angrily.

Ollie got up and started pacing. “About two weeks after I found out Mr. Laredo was getting married, I suffered a miscarriage.” Her voice was barely audible.Enjoy this chapter for free and stay updated with the latest version on J o bnib.c om. I then cut off all communication with him and gave my men orders to shoot on sight if he came near me. I was in Houston, and I stayed in Mom and Dad’s house with Riggs on patrol. When I moved into my condo, I put a small army of men to keep him away. He never did try to contact me though. He let me go and he didn’t even care to come and see if I was okay.” She wiped tears off her cheeks. “At least it’s what I thought.”

Johan appeared appropriately chastised by Ollie’s words and he rose, walking towards her. “Ollie,” Johan grabbed her hand and rubbed his thumb over the back of it. “I’m sorry. A baby? You lost a baby?”

“I’m fine, Johan,” she sunk into his hug. “I’m not saying everything is perfect but I’m doing okay.”

“Why on earth would you reach out to him after this then, Ollie?” Max stared at her with concerned eyes.

“You beat up Doug,” she rubbed the back of her hand across her nose and then sighed loudly. “If I would have sent anyone from your team, Dad’s, or mine, it was possible they would finish off the job and upset Lark or it would make things worse.

I thought if I used someone who wasn’t affiliated it wouldn’t be such a mess.”

“Bullshit,” Max cut her off. “You have been waiting for a reason to reach out to this guy.”

“That’s not fair.”

“Fair? Maybe not, but accurate, a thousand percent.” Max didn’t shy away from calling her out. “You’ve missed him.

Curiosity, the need to know, the desire to know what was happening in his life while you are clearly still hurting over him, got the best of you. You saw your chance and you took it. You used Lark’s situation with Doug, my smashing of the fucker’s face, as an excuse to call the man who broke your heart.”

“Fine!” she yelled and then caught herself and covered her mouth looking worriedly to the door. “Fine, I used you as an excuse to contact him. He owed me a favor and I called it in because I wanted to know, if maybe, a little bit, he missed me like I missed him.”

“For the record,” Lark scoffed, “he definitely did.”

“Not enough to divorce her,” Ollie shot back.

“His wife makes people eat her s**t. He’s probably scared of her.” Lark countered with a twisted smile.

“Get to the part where you made this dangerous for Lark,” Johan was annoyed at the way the women were bantering instead of talking. He didn’t release Ollie, but his gaze was flickering from concern to anger.

“He found out I was in town. I think his men have been watching me since I reached out. He knew I was in Houston, and he messaged me and demanded I go see him, or he was coming to see me. I didn’t want Mom and Dad getting mixed up in this, so I agreed to go.”

Max turned and glared at Lark, “you lied to me. I asked you Friday where you were, and you said you visiting Ollie’s old hangouts?”

“We did go to a bar,” she pursed her lips.

“He wants me back. He wants me to move back to Houston. He wants me to live with him and he wants,” Ollie took a shaky breath, “he wants us to have a family.”

“f**k,” Max pushed his thumbs into his eyes as if struggling to even look at Ollie.

“I dragged Lark along with me and he was telling me I was his and we were going to be a family and I got freaked out and Lark stepped in and got me out of there.”

“You got her out of there how?” Johan questioned angrily stepping away from Ollie now his hands in the air. “Lark, how did you get her out of there?”
