It had been nearly six months since their last encounter.

Nathan had lost a considerable amount of weight.

He must have been watching for a long time, his coffee in hand had completely cooled off.

Ronald spotted Nathan, his gaze darkening.

Kari pretended not to notice, taking a sip of her tea as the sound of approaching footsteps grew louder.

"Can we talk?"

Nathan's brow was furrowed with concern.

Kari glanced at Ronald: "Ten minutes, I'll be right back."

Ronald was reluctant to let Kari interact with him, but he knew well he couldn't confine her: "Alright."

Kari stood up, "Let's go."

She exited the diner, with Nathan trailing behind.

"Are you with Ronald now?"

Nathan's question came with an urgency, his eyes filled with anxiety: "Are you?"

"Yes."

Kari nodded, "We are together."

A wave of agony washed over Nathan's face. Despite knowing they had no future, the realization of Kari having a new boyfriend still hurt.

"Kari, can't you give me another chance?"

During their time together, Kari knew Nathan appeared calm and composed on the surface, but deep down, he had a childish streak.

Naive, almost to the point of foolishness.

"Nathan, it's over between us."

Kari didn't hesitate to burst their bubble of illusion: "I can't marry the enemy who killed my father, and the Jarvis family would never accept me. I didn't go after the Jarvis family because the evidence was lacking and I couldn't fight them."

Even now, when she wasn't short on money, she still couldn't shake the foundation of the Jarvis family.

So, she chose not to seek revenge.

Kari's words left Nathan in despair: "I could—"

"Could you send your dad to jail?" Kari challenged. "If you could, he would've been there by now."

Kari knew he was jealous, "I'm full, let's go home."

Ronald stood up, holding her hand as they left the diner.

Back in their room, Ronald let go of her hand and casually asked, "What did you and Nathan talk about?"

"He wanted to get back together."

Kari was always to the point.

Ronald's expression darkened.

"I didn't agree."

Kari watched his every move, knowing he was upset, and wrapped her arms around his waist: "I told him we're together now, and more importantly, we're happy."

Ronald's body tensed slightly.

"Ronald, deciding to be with you was a well-thought-out choice. I'm more aware than anyone of my feelings for you."

Kari was usually not one to express affection, especially around Ronald, where she felt an indescribable shyness.

Ronald's eyes softened, waiting for her to continue.

She took a deep breath, looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with sincerity: "I genuinely like you, so, I won't go back to Nathan."
