Chapter 555

After hanging up the phone, William noticed that the streetlight was out. He was worried about Brittany, so he made his way over to her.

Brittany returned to the bathroom and saw her bitten lip in the mirror. “Dumb ass,” she cursed at her reflection.

She knew Isaac wouldn’t be able to bear seeing her doing well.

She pulled out her lipstick and carefully applied it to cover the bitten part.

Just as she finished, William showed up.

“You’re here.”

Brittany composed herself and stepped out of the bathroom.

“I was worried sick about you with the lights out,” William said.

Brittany smiled a bit. “Let’s go.”

After witnessing what had just happened, the guests stayed silent about the drama unfolding between the three.

Viola offered to help Brittany. Brittany, of course, didn’t refuse.

They moved through the crowd of guests. Brittany was not a social butterfly, but for the sake of business, she had learned to play the part. A few words here and there, and the guests were laughing, some even expressing interest in potential collaborations.

William stood by, patiently waiting for Brittany.

He was handsome and from a wealthy family. Even with his disability, there were plenty who wanted to get close to him.

A rich man’s daughter tried to mingle, but William gently turned her down with a smile. “Sorry, but I’ve already got a girlfriend.”

The woman, whose eyes welling up with tears, couldn’t even muster the energy to be angry at his gentle rejection.

Upstairs, Isaac had returned to the lounge with a handprint on his face. Nathan, seeing him, was startled

“Mr. Salter, what happened to your face?”

Did Ms. Dustin hit him?

Five years had passed, and yet Ms. Dustin was still as fiery as ever.

Without even glancing at Nathan, Isaac asked, “How’s the investigation going?”

an issue with the Dillion family’s recent project.”

“Do as I previously instructed.”

“Your family sent word saying Daniel Salter has been unsettled these days.” Nathan looked troubled. Daniel wanted to find his mother every day, but without even a photo, how was he supposed to do that?

“I’m aware.”

In the later part of the dinner, Brittany had had quite a bit to drink and was struggling to keep up.

William, with her and Viola, said their goodbyes and helped her leave.

The driver saw them approaching, got out of the car, and opened the door.

The driver and William helped Brittany into the car. William got in and asked the driver to start moving.

Brittany, drunk, was compliant.

She was leaning on the back seat, sleeping soundly.

William took off his coat and draped it over her, asking the driver to drive slower so as not to wake her.

The driver was impressed. Mr. Dillion really did care about Ms. Dustin. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so considerate.

Back at Brittany’s place, William helped her to her room, made her a cup of lemon water, helped her drink it, and then helped her remove her makeup.

She smelled of alcohol.

Worried that Brittany might not be able to handle it, William called a maid from his house.
