“After you left, I went ahead and got us officially married.” 

Brittany slapped Isaac hard, her eyes welling up with tears. She couldn’t believe that after five years, Isaac was still as stubborn as a mule! 

She felt deceived by their sham marriage.

“Isaac, have you lost your marbles? What on earth did I do to deserve you?”

Brittany said, trembling, “Tomorrow I’m taking Daniel and leaving. I’ll see you in court.” 

Isaac took a deep breath, struggling to get up. “I won’t agree to a divorce, and you’re not taking our son.” 

“You should know that no lawyer in this city will take your case if I don’t agree to the divorce.” 

Brittany was shaking with anger. “Get out!” 

Isaac watched her silently, then slowly got up and left. 

Emily heard the argument and wanted to check on them, but she was afraid of upsetting them further. 

As she was hesitating, she saw Isaac come down, looking worn out. 

“Mr. Salter, are you okay?” 

Why had their peaceful daily lives suddenly erupted into an argument?
