“Alaric told me he had zero feelings for Georgia and that he’d definitely call off their engagement. That’s the only reason I agreed to be with him. That so-called fiancée is nothing but an arrangement between you and the Reed family. I never acknowledged her as my fiancée, nor did I ever agree to the engagement.” 

As Alaric spoke, he took Hertha’s hand in his, gripping it firmly in front of Remington, Beatrice, and Angelina, his face a canvas of devoted affection. 

“I only love her. She’s the only one I’ll marry in a lifetime!” he declared with unwavering 

conviction. 

Hertha felt the warmth of his palm against hers. The heat of his palm caused her heart to race uncontrollably like a drum.
