Chapter 1192
“Hey, Alaric, don’t just push your food around. Georgia made this plate just for you,” Angelina observed her son’s restraint, worrying that he might have had another clash with the Reeds and quickly nudged him.
Alaric tore his gaze away, picked up his fork, and speared a piece of food, putting on a contrived smile as he appeased Georgia, “Delicious, you really get me.”
Hertha couldn’t stand to hear anymore about Alaric and Georgia’s perfect relationship or the wedding plans they were discussing. She tugged at Thalassa’s arm, stood up, and said, “Let’s get out of here.”
Spencer hastily grabbed his briefcase, trailing behind her, and they both made their exit.
As Hertha’s group left the restaurant, Alaric’s forced smile crumbled, a surge of bitterness washed over him, and he dropped his fork onto the table with a clatter.
Georgia, sensing his mood shift, felt her cheerfulness sink, and cautiously asked, “Alaric, are you feeling alright?”
“Yeah, I think I’m gonna head back and rest. You guys enjoy the meal,” Alaric said with a cold edge, standing up abruptly to leave.
He never intended to come today, but his mother had insisted. He planned to make it clear to Georgia and her mother that he wanted to call off the engagement with the Reeds.
But then Hertha walked in, and everything changed.
Seeing Hertha so close with that guy drove him mad with jealousy. Inexplicably, he found himself acting out just to spite her.
Once outside the restaurant, Spencer suggested, “I’ve got movie tickets; let’s go.”
Hertha declined, “No, thanks. I’ve got some urgent stuff to take care of at home. You should head back too.”
She had insisted on paying the bill herself as a way to owe nothing to Spencer, ensuring that if they parted ways, there would be no hard feelings.
She planned to tell her mother later that there was no spark with Spencer and to have her mother explain things to the matchmaker.
Spencer asked, “Something came up?”
Thalassa, trying to ease the awkwardness, chimed in with a forced smile, “Yeah, she’s got . a design deadline. It’s due tomorrow.”
“I ‘see, work comes first. Let me drive you guys home,” Spencer offered, understandingly, reaching for his car keys.

“No need, we’ll handle it. Wouldn’t want to hold you up, and I’ve got my car here.” Hertha quickly pulled out her keys to show him, just to make sure he didn’t think she was brushing him off.
“Alright then, we’ll catch up over the phone, Spencer said.
Hertha, feeling awkward and wanting to decline, found it hard to voice her refusal. They quickly went their separate ways, and she prepared to have a talk with her mother about turning Spencer down.
After Hertha and Thalassa left in Hertha’s car, Spencer’s phone rang – it was Hertha’s mother inquiring about how things were going.
