Astrid was fuming, her cheeks flushed with frustration. Meanwhile, Thalassa was doing her utmost, rushing from one hospital to another to ensure Astrid received the best care. Thankfully, Astrid's condition was showing signs of improvement.
But Dr. Funke's comment, especially made in front of Thalassa, was like rubbing salt in the wound. How could he be so insensitive?
With a sidelong glance at Astrid, Dr. Funke coolly stated, "I never misjudge a situation."
"Oh, come on... You..." Astrid was at a loss for words, ready to give Dr. Funke a piece of her mind.
Thalassa quickly stood up, gently taking Astrid by the arm, soothing her, "Auntie, please, don't get worked up. Have a seat and relax for a bit."
She helped her aunt to a chair by the dining table.
Then, turning to Dr. Funke, she said, "Dr. Funke, this is my aunt. She just dropped by to deliver some documents for me. Please, take a seat. The lady you're supposed to meet for the blind date hasn't arrived yet."
It was then Dr. Funke realized his mistake; the person in front of him wasn't his blind date but Thalassa's aunt.
But apologizing was not something Dr. Funke was known for. Without a word, he took a seat at the table.
Thalassa poured some coffee for Dr. Funke and her aunt, trying to make small talk to lighten the mood.
She could sense the tension between her aunt and Dr. Funke, so she tried to defuse the situation by mentioning the woman Dr. Funke was supposed to meet still hadn't shown up for their 10 o'clock appointment.
She also thanked her aunt for delivering the documents, saving her from being late, knowing well that Dr. Funke detested tardiness.
"Thanks to my aunt, I didn't have to go back for these documents. Dr. Funke, perhaps you could've reviewed Adelaide's information beforehand?" Thalassa suggested, handing over the documents to Dr. Funke, hoping he'd be a bit nicer to her aunt.
Dr. Funke flipped through the documents without responding to Thalassa or acknowledging Astrid, maintaining his aloof demeanor.
Thalassa caught her aunt's displeased look and gave her a reassuring glance, signaling her not to take it to heart.
"Hertha, we've started working on your designs, but we're facing some issues with a few of them. We need to discuss this," Ethan explained.
"What issues? Can I help right now?" Hertha sat up, always serious about her work.
"It's too complex to explain over the phone. Can you meet me at Fortune Restaurant? We need to talk face to face."
"But..." Hertha tried to mention she had taken the day off, but Ethan had already hung up before she could explain. She didn't even get a chance to clarify.
Reluctantly, Hertha called Donovan to explain the situation.
"Hertha, this is about your job. If we upset the client, it could mean compensation from our end. Please weigh the options," he urged.
After advising her, Donovan too ended the call.
