Alaric just showed up, uninvited, crowding her space without any warning, pushing her back into the house.

If he discovered the kids, she'd be in tears for sure.

In her frantic state, her temper flared. She swatted Alaric's hand away from her chin and glared at him, fury mixing with embarrassment. "And why should I tell you anything? Get out of my house!"

Desperate, she placed her hands against Alaric's chest, trying to push him away.

Her hands, through the fabric of his shirt, felt the coolness of his skin against the warmth of Alaric's heart.

The icy touch of her fingertips against his burning skin felt like an electric shock, sending a shiver through him.

Alaric's gaze darkened, his grip firm on her wrists, neutralizing her attempts to push him away.

She was petite, barely reaching his shoulder, and as he looked down at her, a mischievous smirk played on his lips. "So, did I guess right? Are you really hiding something from me, is that why you're so flustered? Let's see what you're so desperately trying to keep from me."

His breath was warm on her face as he leaned closer, their body heat mingling, making her already flushed face burn even hotter.

Her heart pounded uncontrollably.

Before she could react, Alaric straightened up, creating a safe distance between them and walked towards her room.

Snapping back to reality and realizing where Alaric was heading, she held her breath, inhaled sharply, and quickly turned around to intercept him.

How could she let Alaric discover her secret?

But Alaric moved swiftly, covering the distance to the room in a few strides, reached for the doorknob, and pushed the door open.

She hurried after him, only to see Alaric walk up to the bed and stare at the pink Peppa Pig bedsheet spread out on it.

He frowned, then turned to her and asked, "Is this your big secret?"

Clutching her hand nervously, she awaited Alaric's interrogation.

After running into her parents that day, to prevent Alaric from bumping into her and the kids, she had left Julian and Helena at her parents' house, asking them to look after the children.

Given that Alaric was now living in the same neighborhood, she had been avoiding him, ensuring he hadn't seen her with Julian and Helena.

But, it was only a matter of time before a slip-up or coincidence would lead to Alaric seeing them together.

To be safe, she had decided to keep Julian and Helena with her parents, thus avoiding any chance encounters with Alaric.
