At that moment, without any leverage and knowing she couldn't get the two million, her gaze turned hollow, and she seemed like a shadow of her former self, wandering aimlessly.
She looked at Thalassa and Lysander standing at the doorway with lifeless eyes, “Are you satisfied now?”
“What is there to be satisfied about?” Lysander's voice was cold as ice. “Letting a kidnapper use hostages to extort money for a second time is my greatest failure!”
Susan's pupils dilated, sensing danger, “What do you mean?”
Before her confusion could clear, two police officers appeared at the door, “We've received a tip-off that the fugitive Susan is here.”
At this, Thalassa quickly nudged Lysander aside, making way for the officers, declaring, “She’s Susan.”
The officers moved in swiftly, apprehending Susan before she even had a chance to flee.
The cold handcuffs clasped around Susan's wrists, her expression a mix of panic and fear, “You've got the wrong person, I'm not a fugitive!”
“If you're Susan, then we've got the right person!” the officer asserted authoritatively.
As Susan was being led away, she turned towards Joshua in a desperate, hysterical plea, “Joshua, save me, I don’t want to go to jail, find a way to save me, I'm the mother of your child!”
Her voice was loud enough to echo through the entire building.
The child, terrified, shrank further into Joshua's embrace, his little body trembling.
Feeling the child's fear, Joshua wrapped his arms tighter around him, cocooning the child in his thick coat.
Moreover, she had used the life of her child as leverage to extort money from him!
What kind of woman uses her own child's life to threaten someone for money?
Susan was unfit to be a mother!
“Joshua, what are you saying! That child is mine, I gave birth to him! What did you do, enjoy a brief moment of pleasure? Did you suffer through the pregnancy? Were you there when I almost died giving birth? And now you want to take the child from me! I won't let you get away with this, Joshua!”
Susan’s hysterical screams faded as the police took her away.
Only when her voice was no longer audible did Joshua finally relax, loosening his hold on the child slightly, gently patting the back of the child’s head, “Don’t be scared, she won’t be coming back.”
