Lysander, with a casual grace, lifted the teacup before him and took a sip, his lips curling into a half-smile that wasn't quite friendly.

Joshua's face turned a shade paler. He had hoped to wriggle out of the situation with a quick excuse, but Lysander wasn't playing along, cutting right through his pretense.

"I admit, I've been neglecting Thalassa lately. Now that I've got some free time, I'll make sure to pay her a visit soon," Joshua said, maintaining his smile, attempting to smooth over the tension with Lysander.

Rosalind had been silent up to this point, initially struck by Lysander's inherent nobility and the impressive presence he commanded, just like the old days. But as the conversation between Joshua and Lysander unfolded, she found herself unable to find an opening.

However, once Thalassa's name started to dominate the conversation, a bitter feeling began to well up inside Rosalind.

As soon as Joshua finished speaking, Rosalind, fueled by frustration, blurted out, "I saw Thalassa at the cemetery yesterday!"

Joshua, watching his daughter, felt a pang of sorrow. His eldest daughter had died in her prime, a pain he could hardly express. He had once hoped Harper and Lysander would marry, joining forces to lead the Whitman and Sinclair empires to greater heights, allowing the older generation to retire in peace. But an accident took Harper away, along with his dreams.

Mentioning Harper again stirred deep emotions in Joshua.

"Those we've lost remain in our hearts, even if only in memory. I visited Harper and Leopold's graves recently too," Lysander said, setting his teacup down and shifting his gaze from Rosalind to Joshua with a detached air.

"Mr. Whitman, when do you think would be a good time? Thalassa and I would like to join you for dinner," Lysander said, smoothly steering the conversation away from the discomfort Rosalind had provoked and back to Joshua's previous statement.
