Chapter 927

Thalassa, raising her head from Lysander’s embrace, hastily said, “There’s no need; just let Fitch take us in the minivan. You’re so busy with work, and I wouldn’t want to take up more of your time.”

Lysander’s gaze lingered on her with a dark intensity, his breath hot on her face. “Are you sure you don’t need me to come with you?”

“Absolutely sure. We’ll be back in a couple of days,” Thalassa reassured him, her eyes shimmering with a light that only deepened his smoldering stare.

A flutter of panic seized Thalassa, fearing he might change his mind. She rose on her tiptoes and pressed a fleeting kiss to his lips. “You’re the best, you know that? Off I go. See you in two days.”

With those hurried words, she turned and practically bolted from the room.

Lysander stood motionless, watching her retreat. A ripple of heat coursed through him, though he forced it down, his Adam’s apple bobbing with the effort.

Downstairs, Thalassa quickly gathered the children in the yard. “Kids, time to hit the road to Grandma’s house!”

Dorian, clutching a soccer ball, paused mid-play, then dropped the ball and dashed towards Thalassa, rolling towards her like a tumbleweed. “Oh yeah, awesome! Can’t wait to see Grandma!”

“Mommy, wait for me! I’m coming too!” Elowen’s little legs pumped furiously as she ran to catch up, not wanting to be left behind. “I wanna go too!” Sophia’s little face flushed with urgency as she sprinted towards her mother.

Atticus, usually silent, quickened his pace to join them.

The soccer ball they had been playing with moments ago was forgotten, lying abandoned on the grass.

Thalassa led her excited troop out the door.

From the second floor, Lysander watched through the picture window as the minivan pulled away, his deep-set eyes reflecting the warmth of the setting sun.

“Wow, Grandma’s house is so pretty!” Elowen’s mouth hung open in awe, wide enough to fit an egg.

“It’s huge! Grandma, did you strike it rich or something?” Dorian gazed up at Evelyn with wonder sparkling in his innocent eyes.

Evelyn couldn’t help but smile at their childlike exuberance.

“Do you like it? You’ll have plenty of room to play here,” she chuckled.

“Yeah, we love it! But we love Grandma more. Wherever Grandma is, that’s where we want to be,” Elowen’s little voice was so earnest. It brought a chuckle from everyone.

Evelyn touched Elowen’s cheek affectionately. “You sweet talker, Grandma adores you.”

“What about me, Grandma? Do you like me too?” Dorian looked up, seeking his share of affection.

“Of course, Grandma loves you too.”

“And me?” Sophia piped up, not to be forgotten.
