Aurora stepped into the spacious Bay Residence with her son in tow. The house already buzzed with warmth—Miles and Felicity were chatting on the living room couch, mugs of hot chocolate in hand.
The moment Aurora walked in, Felicity hopped up and hurried over, arms wide open. “There’s my handsome Elijah! Come here, let your favorite aunt smother you with kisses!”
Aurora grinned, watching as Felicity scooped Elijah up. “You can still call yourself his aunt, Felicity, but I have a feeling you’ll be ‘Auntie-in-law’ before long.”
Felicity blinked in mock surprise, then shot back with a wink, “Hey, nothing’s settled till I’ve signed the dotted line. I’m single as long as my name’s not on that marriage license!”
“Single?” Miles blurted from behind her, suddenly all business. “Well, we’ll fix that first thing tomorrow. Wedding can wait, but you—well, you’re already spoken for.”
Aurora giggled, shaking her head. “Felicity, stop teasing my brother. He’s serious, you know. You’ll give him a heart attack.”
The room filled with laughter.
Aurora gently took Elijah back after a moment. Felicity was expecting, after all, and with Elijah still so little and wiggly, Aurora didn’t want to risk anything.
Meanwhile, from the kitchen, the comforting aroma of food wafted in. Dorothy was helping Everett prep dinner. Over the years, Everett had spoiled her palate—whenever Dorothy traveled for work and had to eat out, she swore she lost a couple pounds just missing his cooking.
“Looks like Abigail is back,” Dorothy said, glancing toward the living room.
Everett nodded, plating up the last batch of honey-glazed chicken wings, then rinsed his hands.
Dorothy reached for the hot platter, but Everett stopped her. “Let me get that, it’s piping hot.”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m not clueless, you know! I can tell when something’s hot.”
Everett raised an eyebrow, reminding her, “You forget two years ago? You burned your hand on a dish and complained for days.”
