Before Lane could utter a word, Dorothy flatly rejected him.

"Jeffrey, there's nothing I want to discuss with you."

"You'd prefer they hear about your past?"

Dorothy's posture noticeably stiffened. Was Jeffery threatening her?

He guessed that Dorothy hadn't shared her history with Everett with anyone else. He didn't know why, but he was sure she had her reasons and that they were enough to make her listen to him.

"What are you two talking about?" Lane asked as his eyes darted between Dorothy and Jeffrey.

Jeffrey smiled and said, “You might not know this, but Ms. Sanchez used to be involved with…”

“Enough!” Dorothy cut him off sharply and turned her gaze to Jeffrey. “We can talk, but let's go over there."

Jeffrey gave an 'OK' gesture with his hand. "Lane, you go ahead. Don't worry, I'll make sure she comes for dinner."

Lane had no idea what was going on.

He looked at Dorothy. Since she did not protest, he could only nod. "Okay, I'll wait for you."

As he turned and disappeared into the restaurant, Dorothy spoke in a cold voice, "Mr. Turner, I recall we have no quarrel. The Lopez family and Heather wanted me to stay away from Everett, and I did. Why are you here threatening me?"

Jeffrey pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. "I'm just wondering how you got involved with Lane."

The word 'involved' had a certain implication.
