“Whatever, I don’t love you, either. Had you agreed to the divorce, I would have been married to Arnold and back in Goldstone, living my happy life by now. You ruined my happiness, so don’t you dare expect me to fulfill yours. Let’s rot together in this hell!” She spat out the words as if daring him to react, her resentment bubbling like a raging river. 

A sharp pain pierced through Leopold’s gaze as every word she uttered was a blade, slashing mercilessly at his heart, leaving him wounded and cold. 

He knew her heart always belonged to Arnold, and he was merely a footnote in her life. 

If Arnold wasn’t married, she wouldn’t be bearing such resentment against him. 

After all, where else could hate possibly stem from if there was no love? 

“You refused to divorce because Arnold isn’t divorced either, right?”

He took a deep breath, forcing his voice colder than he intended. “You should know your place. Picking up a fight with me is like an egg smashing against a rock. If you don’t want to embarrass yourself, just sign the divorce papers.” With that, he turned and hurriedly left. He couldn’t stay a second longer for fear of losing control. 

A single tear slipped from Aurelia’s eye, and only when he was gone did her tears dare to fall. 

She hated Leopold because she had loved him. The deeper the love was, the deeper the 

hate was.
