Spencer did not deal with Ronald much, but he had to admit the guy was good at getting things done.
Spencer cracked a smile. "It's been quite a while. Thanks for asking, Mr. Wells!" He glanced around and then got to the point. "So, what's the deal today?"
"Oh, we've sorted it all out. It's got nothing to do with your wife," Ronald said with a twinkle in his eye to Spencer. "No worries, Mr. Sabian. We would've sent her home even if you hadn't shown up. But since you're here, I've got something to tell you."
"Go ahead, Mr. Wells," Spencer said, his forehead slick with sweat. He could feel the powerful aura of Charles’ people. He was usually a goody-two-shoes, but he had pulled some strings for Yessica so she could brag to her classmates.
Ronald let out a small smile. "Mr. Sabian, you're a clever man. Think about it, and you'll figure out why we're here today. The lady of the house might not be involved, but she's the one who invited these guests. You know this can’t happen again, right?"
"Yes. I get it, Mr. Wells. You can count on me," Spencer replied, then quickly added, "Mr. Hoffman, you too."
"Mm-hmm."
"So, what happened?" Yessica asked, seeing her husband looking all shaken up when he got back. "Did you talk to them?"
"Let's just go," Spencer said, his lips tight.
"Wait!" Yessica, being tugged along by Spencer, stopped him urgently. "You haven't told me what's going on!"
Winter turned away, her fists clenched, acting as if she could not hear Annie's cries.
Once Annie was gone, the officials came out and sent the men in black away. "We've sorted out today's incident. You all can go home now."
Everyone let out a relieved sigh and started to leave. Soon, only Winter and Suzy were left. Winter's face was ghostly pale. "Annie, she..."
Suzy squinted and took Winter's hand. "We'll talk when we get back." Suzy was the clever one. She did not talk much, but when she did, she got her point across. "This isn't the place for this conversation."
Winter bit her lip, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at Suzy. "Annie... I really wanted to help her, but you know I couldn't. It's all my fault. She did everything for me!"
