Mateo's eyes darkened as he sighed. "Your mother's situation isn't easy to handle. Years of resentment can't be undone so simply. Her purpose for returning is clear. Do you think she came back for me?"

"Then you should understand that no one can force me to do anything, whether it's Kelly or Janet," Charles set down his teacup with excessive force, causing tea to splash out.

Mateo's expression tightened. "But your mother..."

"Capiton is her family, the Baker family's, domain. If she likes it there so much, tell her to go back. It's better if she doesn't return!"

Suddenly, a noise came from outside. Charles frowned, stood up, and opened the door to find Janet standing there.

Her face was pale. Beside her was Clarisse, who was equally pale. "Charlie, you..."

"Charles, do you really hate me that much?" Janet asked.

Seeing this, Charles let out a cold laugh. "I'm not Dad. My tolerance isn't as high as his. I'll say it once more; it's best you don't interfere in my affairs. No one can decide my marriage for me. If you don't believe me, we can go ahead and test that theory."

Charles brushed past Clarisse but saw Maxwell leaning on his cane at the top of the stairs.

"Grandpa," Charles called out.

Maxwell nodded. "Charlie, you're here? When did you arrive?"

Charles smiled as he replied, "Just now. I was discussing some matters with Dad and Uncle Henry."
