As promised, Milo visited Clarisse, who was receiving treatment at the hospital. Clarisse did indeed look like she had sustained severe injuries. She had an odd expression and merely invited Milo to sit upon his arrival. “You must be here because of what happened yesterday, Milo! But I’ve made myself clear. I won’t be able to provide any more help on the issue regarding Charles and Janet.”

Milo lost his temper upon hearing that. “We’re siblings. I’m sure we can find some other things to talk about.” Why did Clarisse immediately have to annoy him?

Clarisse’s lips fluttered. “Go ahead, then. What else do we need to talk about?”

“You… Fine. I admit, it’s about yesterday. Um…” Milo fell silent for a brief moment. “I’m here to ask you a question!”

“Alright, go ahead!” Clarisse readjusted her breathing and leaned against the headboard to gaze at Milo. “I won’t turn your request down if I can help out .”

Milo hesitated briefly before asking, “Did Janet mention a child while she was breaking down?”

“A child?” Clarisse was stunned. She had not expected Milo to ask such a question and immediately asked, “What child? Since when did Janet…” She had never heard Janet mention a child, but when she saw Milo’s expression, she abruptly fell silent.

“What’s the matter?”

Clarisse shook her head. “Why would she mention a child?”

Milo’s body stiffened momentarily before he shook his head. “What would I even be keeping secret from you? Haven’t I already told you everything I know? Alright, my flight is scheduled for the afternoon, and I need to start packing. Janet’s waiting for me back at the hotel!”

Milo left without looking back upon completing his sentence. Clarisse was not reassured by what he said and became even more worried. She could not help but think her brother was keeping secrets from her, but she simply could not figure out what he was not telling her.

Charles was listening in to Clarisse and Milo’s conversation. He also fell silent upon observing how both siblings acted.

“Did you hear that as well?” Charles said as he looked toward Ronald, who immediately stood to attention. "Yes, Mr. Hoffman!”
