Peter had spent his life accustomed to solitude, embracing cold independence. However, from the moment he met Tania, he could not imagine being apart from her. Leaving her was never an option.

Nancy frowned. "So, you're here to ask me to bring Tania back?"

As a daughter raised in the Naylor family, Nancy was sharp and perceptive. She did not miss much.

Peter nodded. "It's been three years. I've been searching for Tania all this while, but she won't see me. Even with all the connections I've used, I haven't been able to find her. You're her mother. Surely, you..."

"Have you ever considered that maybe Tania doesn't want to be found?" Nancy's voice was calm but piercing.

Peter's hand trembled slightly, and a flicker of discomfort crossed his gaze.

This man, who had always carried himself with pride and certainty, now faced a dilemma for which he had no answer to and no clear path forward.

Throughout his 30-plus years, Peter had always lived with the belief that he could achieve anything through effort. Failure or rejection had never seemed real.

Nancy paused as she observed his expression. "Let it go, Peter. If you've managed without Tania for three years. It shows that life goes on without her."

"I never thought she'd leave me." Peter's voice was low, almost a whisper. He gave a bitter smile. "I won't give up. I'll wait for her no matter how long it takes. There's no one else for me. Even if I can't have her, I'll still wait."

His words hung in the air, unanswered. Nancy remained silent, and Peter understood. Her disapproval of him ran deep.

Any parent would resent someone who had hurt their child. In the eyes of many, it looked as though Peter had abandoned Tania.

Peter stood up and said respectfully, "If you truly don't know where Tania is, I won't bother you further. I'll take my leave."

"You're back?" Nancy said, motioning for them to sit as she handed them both cups of tea. "So, your invitation to come out was just an excuse, wasn't it?"

Noelle flushed, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry, Aunt Nancy."

Nancy shook her head with a faint smile, taking a sip of tea. "I doubt this was your idea. I imagine it was Charlie's doing. He's always full of schemes. If he had asked me himself, your Uncle Henry would've interfered. But since you invited me, Noelle, Henry didn't mind as much."

Charles said with a grin, "Aunt Nancy, nothing gets past you. How did your conversation with Peter go?"

Nancy sighed. "He wants to see Tania, but it's not that easy now that it has been three years. Tania might have moved on with a new life. People can't live in the past forever.

"I don't know exactly what happened between them, but Tania was deeply hurt—both physically and emotionally. Charlie, I know Peter is your friend, but Tania is your cousin."
