"Sure thing!" Brandon clapped his hands, his face lighting up with excitement.
Peter squinted playfully. "Alright, let's go have some more fun!"
"Hold on!"
Tania spotted Peter about to walk off with Brandon in his arms and quickly intervened, scooping Brandon into her own arms. "Why are you taking Brandon out?" she demanded, her eyes drilling into Peter. "I've told you before that Brandon isn't your son. Why would you..."
"Tania, it's not every day that Brandon gets to have fun outside. I don't want to waste our time arguing about his dad. We can sort that out later," Peter cut in, trying to keep his voice calm. "Seriously, how have you been raising him? He's three now, and it's high time he started meeting people. Keeping him cooped up at home isn't good for him, you know. It could mess with his head."
"That's enough, Peter. What gives you the right to judge me? You're nothing to Brandon and me. Just so you know, if you ever take him again without asking me, I won't hesitate to call the cops on you!"
Tania was ready to storm off with Brandon in her arms when he looked up at her, his little face all scrunched up and sad. "Mommy, why can't I play with Uncle Peter? I like him."
Tania's heart twisted at his words. Her brows drew together in a fierce frown. She could not believe how much Brandon seemed to need Peter, especially since he had never really spent time with him before. Was that what they called a family bond? However, she was the one who had brought Brandon into this world, and Peter had been nowhere to be found when she was fighting for her life.
"Sweetie, you've played enough for today. Let's go home, okay?" Tania said softly, dabbing at his sweaty forehead with a towel. "You're all sweaty, and I don't want you catching a cold."
Tania might have been hesitant, but she could not be tough on Brandon. She led him off to have fun, with Peter tagging along.
Noelle grabbed Charles's hand and pulled him down to sit next to her. "Charles, isn't Brandon just the cutest?"
"Absolutely!" Charles grinned from ear to ear. "You seem to really adore kids, huh?"
"Totally!" Noelle agreed with a nod, whipping out her phone to show off the photos. "I caught this adorable moment of Peter playing with Brandon. They're the spitting image of each other—father and son. Check this out, their moves and faces are like in total sync, it's just so..." Noelle rambled on until she caught Charles's deep, soulful gaze locking onto hers, and her heart did a little flip.
