At that, Gavin's tears stopped instantly.

He stared at me, feigning ignorance. "What do you mean by that?"

Without hesitation, I ripped apart his facade.

"Gavin, stop pretending."

"I overheard the conversation you had with your friend in the study. The car accident that left me paralyzed—wasn't it your doing?"

My tone was firm and certain.

Hearing this, Gavin visibly panicked.

His face turned pale as he stumbled over an explanation.

"Scarlett, it's not like that. I did all of this just to keep you by my side. You're too extraordinary, too far out of my league. I was afraid you'd look down on me, that you'd leave me, so I wanted to dim your light a bit—to make you rely on me."

His absurd reasoning made me laugh in disbelief.

"Gavin, stop making excuses for your greed."

"You wanted me paralyzed so you could take my money, strip me of my power in the company, and seize the business I've spent years building…"

My voice grew colder as I spoke.
