A few days later, Hector brought Babe.
Babe's eyes were spinning, and his chubby face was very squeezable.
Hector slapped his little bottom.
“She's your mom, call her ‘Mom'!”
The blood connection made me unconsciously stretch out my hand to touch him.
As soon as my hand touched Babe's head, he started crying.
"Why are you crying? She's your mom. How many times did we tell you before coming here? Why can't you learn to call her ‘Mom'?"
Hector's voice was a bit loud, and Babe cried even harder.
It seems he thought he could win me back with the child, but unfortunately, Babe wasn't close to me, and was even a bit afraid of me.
Actually, thinking about it, this was probably for the best.
Although Babe is my son, he's not close to me, and I wouldn't force myself to get close to him either.
Seeing that I wasn't fond of Babe, Hector knew he couldn't win me back with the child, so he simply stayed in the bridal shop.
It happened to be getting colder, and there weren't many people on the street, so the bridal shop was also quite empty.
To please me, Hector used his personal connections to help bring in quite a few customers.
They came into the store and didn't even try on the wedding dresses, just casually picked one and left.
I stopped them and took the wedding dresses back.
“You're not really planning to buy the wedding dresses. Buying them would be a waste.”
The customers left grumbling.
Hector seemed puzzled.
“Ivy, aren't you short on money? I'm helping you here.”
I looked at him coldly.
“Hector, the fact is, we're not the same type of people. You're a businessman, and businessmen chase profit. I'm a designer—making money is secondary. What I care about is whether the wedding dresses I design can be liked and recognized by others.”
“So, you don't need to do something so thankless. Take Babe back to New York.”
Seeing that I was sending him away, Hector's eyes were filled with sadness.
“Ivy, I'm sorry. If you think I'm too profit-driven, I can change. I just ask you not to push me away.”
Just then, my senior called to invite me to lunch.
Today, the class monitor was dressed very formally, in a suit and leather shoes.
The same style of clothes on Hector made him look sharp and capable, but on the class monitor, the rigidity and sharpness seemed to fade, leaving only a warm, jade-like demeanor that made people feel an inexplicable closeness.
We'd eaten here many times before.
But for some reason, this time felt a bit different.
The class monitor handed me the steak on my plate.
“Ivy, try this, I made today's steak.”
I was a bit surprised. Why was the class monitor cooking himself?
“It's rich but not greasy, the timing is just right, it's delicious.”
The class monitor folded his hands on the table, nervously watching me finish the steak.
