Originally, Rita's investigation was just scratching the surface. They just never expected that a small reporter like her would uncover the truth about their development of that land years ago.

Back then, they had put in immense effort to deceive and relocate all the residents. Since the land was in the hands of Sherman's company, him turning against them was not out of the realm of possibility if anything inappropriate was exposed.

To nip this possibility in the bud, they needed to deal with Rita quickly, especially since Karen had conveyed this order to him. Finally, Karen needed his help, and he had to do everything he could to get it done.

"Sherman, stop the car here. I saw a donut vendor on the roadside. It's been so long since I've had them, and I kind of miss the taste," said Claire.

Sherman hesitated. "I don't think it's a good idea to stop here. It's so crowded, so you might be recognized. Neither of us will be able to leave then."

"Why are you being so cautious right now? It's just a quick stop for me to buy some donuts. If you're worried about being recognized, just park the car a bit farther away! Besides, I haven't been out for fun in a long time. I can't even indulge in these treats because I have to watch my figure. What harm would it do to fulfill my wish once?" Claire countered Sherman at a ratio of ten-to-one.

Feeling helpless, Sherman parked the car not far from the stall and got out to open the door for her. "I didn't say you couldn't. I'm just worried about you."

"I knew you always treat me the best," Claire said as if she did not mind the argument they had just had.

She got out of the car, happily linked arms with him, and pulled him toward the donut stall.

Sherman frowned, feeling that Claire was acting a bit strange.

Sure enough, just after she paid, Claire was recognized by someone, and Sherman instinctively stood in front of her.

"Okay, all signed. See you next time," Claire said, handing back the autograph book.

The fan hurriedly took it, not even bothering to take the donuts she had ordered, and squealed as she ran off.

Claire chuckled helplessly and then turned to the stall owner. "Let me pay for her donuts. If she comes back to collect it later, please give it to her."

The stall owner smiled. "So you're a big star, huh? It's nice of you to be so good to your fans. You and your boyfriend look very good together, too!"

Sherman remained silent throughout, but on the way back to the car with Claire, he suddenly glanced back at a certain corner but ultimately did not find anything.

Claire looked at him strangely as he stopped in his tracks. "What's wrong?"
