The mastermind behind her downfall from five years ago was standing right there. Evelyn suddenly charged forward, cutting past Charles and Dahlia, her hand swinging towards Sena. She had never imagined that Sena could be so evil five years ago.
Sena wanted to fight back, but when she locked eyes with Charles, she just couldn’t muster the courage. She had no choice but to bear Evelyn’s slaps, one fierce blow after another, until her face was swollen, and Evelyn's pent-up frustration was released. Those slaps were payback for the trap Sena had set five years ago.
“Evelyn, stop it. That’s enough,” Dahlia pleaded as she rushed in, putting herself between them to shield Sena. “Sena did what she did back then for my sake. If you need to blame someone, blame me. Please, no more hitting Sena.”
Even with Dahlia’s intervention, Sena didn’t feel a shred of gratitude. She realized she had been so naive before. Dahlia hadn’t rushed over too soon or too late and only stepped in once Evelyn was done. This so-called protection was so ridiculous.
“Get out of my way, Dahlia. Stop pretending to be all righteous,” Sena spat, utterly disgusted. She shoved Dahlia aside with one hand.
Dahlia landed on the floor, propping herself up while wearing an injured look. “Sena, I know you’re mad because I stood by, but you’ve got it all wrong.”
Moments earlier, Sena had pushed her onto the coffee table, knocking Evelyn’s unlocked phone onto it as well. The screen was playing the video Evelyn had shown Sena, showing nothing more than the instant Sena was dragged inside. There wasn’t anything incriminating beyond that. The video couldn't harm Dahlia as long as she insisted she hadn’t seen anything. Plus, she was certain Charles would stand by her and believe her.
