Evelyn was overwhelmed with grief and anger thinking about how young Charlie had been when she passed away. Her eyes were red with tears as she confronted Charles.

"Charles, Charlie went through so much pain with her illness. I finally found a kidney donor, and she was so close to being healthy again..." she said, her voice breaking. "But then Dahlia, that horrible woman, robbed my Charlie of her second chance at life. Doesn’t she deserve to pay for what she did to Charlie?"

Charles stood there, stunned, unable to respond. A deep fear gnawed at him, worried that the kidney he helped Dahlia get might have been meant for Charlie. His silence only made Evelyn feel like he didn’t believe her.

Evelyn clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her anger in check.

"Charles, maybe you don't trust me or Granny, but can't you at least think for yourself?" she pressed on. "Whether Dahlia really had a hand in Charlie's death, whether I'm wrong about her, wouldn't you find out if you just looked into it?"

"You refuse to investigate and blindly defend her. Are you even using your brain?" she added, frustration evident in her voice.

Charles tried to speak, but the words just wouldn’t come out. Evelyn grabbed the front of his shirt, her tear-swollen eyes pleading with him.

"Charles, if you truly feel sorry for Charlie, if you really want to make it up to her, then go and find out the truth!" she urged. "Let Charlie and Granny rest in peace."

Despite her heartfelt words, Charles still didn’t agree to look into the matter. Evelyn hadn’t expected him to have unwavering faith in her without proof, like Rosa did. But she hoped he would at least have some doubt and be willing to investigate.

She was limited in what she could uncover on her own, but if Charles was willing, he could surely find some clues and discover that Dahlia played a role in Charlie's death. She hadn’t anticipated that Charles wouldn’t even bother to investigate.

Evelyn’s hands suddenly went limp, and she sank back into her chair, closing her eyes in pain. Her body trembled slightly, as silent tears rolled down her cheeks, her face a picture of despair and sadness.

Seeing Evelyn in such a state made Charles feel even more uneasy. He didn’t know if the kidney Dahlia had acquired was truly meant for Charlie, nor could he be sure if Dahlia was aware or if it was all a terrible mistake. His usually clear thoughts were now a tangled mess.

He didn’t know the truth and was scared of what he might find, unsure how he’d face it. But he didn’t run away. Instead, he took out his phone and texted Aiden: "Check into Sandy's kidney donor."

He needed to uncover the truth.
